The Business Solution Engineer is responsible for tuning and implementing the vision and strategic approach respect to the various applications and processes utilized by external and internal customers of PJM & Outage Analysis Technologies. This position will be responsible for providing architectural skills and experience in the areas of development estimation and efficiency, automating and encoding business practices, designing development requirements based off subject matter expert interviews, application performance tuning and support, framework evaluation, vendor & PJM ITS solution evaluation, enhancing user experience, prototyping, and innovation.
Primary application focus for the Lead Business Solution Engineer will be keystone, TO Connection, Smartlogs among others. Some of these applications are PJM developed and managed tool suite of about 20 applications which facilitate PJM internal / member / external coordination around the lifecycle of PJM Operations model equipment.
This position will be accountable for developing and maintaining business relationships with key internal and external stakeholders and will also leverage and support Operations and other PJM initiatives. The Lead Business Solution Engineer will anticipate problems and synthesize appropriate strategic solutions, and effectively implement these initiatives.
This position will include individual developmental efforts, but will primarily focus on team-based endeavors.
Essential Functions:
- Utilize PJM, industry knowledge and technical acumen, to hone the architectural design, development and implementation of business solutions, systems and infrastructure around 24x7x365 operational platforms.
- Perform review and approval of business requirements to ensure the resulting technical requirements and business solutions meet or exceed business needs.
- Perform review and approval of technical requirements to ensure all technical requirements have been identified to adequately meet approved business requirements.
- Provide performance tuning and ongoing support for a virtualized infrastructure, including servers and storage, in a large-scale, multi-site production environment.
- Support ITS-based and non-ITS solutions around addressing business needs, enhancing business processes, and developing business strategies at a project, departmental, divisional, cross-divisional and/or corporate level.
- From a business perspective, incorporate logical security principles into each area of design, including network security, service security and user management.
- Serve as a technical consultant to other arms of the business and ITS.
- Contribute in tool testing methodology, approach, design, coordination, and test plan development.
- Research, evaluate, and recommend new technologies to meet business/technical requirements and recommend novel applications of existing technologies to improve quality and/or reduce costs.
- Maintain existing relationships with key strategic vendors, and develop new business relationships with vendor personnel, to build consensus and leverage the PJM business vision and strategy.
- Identify and analyze risks, establish contingency plans and identify trigger events and responsibility for initiating mitigation activities. Ensure the timely identification, prioritization and resolution or escalation of issues. Communicate issues that put delivery of the project at risk, significantly increase cost, or threaten the success of other projects to the appropriate authority as soon as they are known.
- Represent the business and engage in the development of ITS technical roadmaps and technology life cycle management (TLCM) mappings on behalf of business.
- Assist in the development of business plans and associated budgets.
- Apply innovative, creative solutions to challenging technological problems; designing and engineering solutions as needed.
- For primary applications, support integrations/api, code reviews, code releases, data migration evaluation/implementation, provide on-call support and emergency change assessments, resolution, and mitigation strategies.
- Software development towards business solutions, leveraging ITS practices, as needed.
- Mentoring others in application/system understanding and support; Mentoring others in the design, development, and delivery of technical solutions that meet approved business objectives.
Characteristics & Qualifications:
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent work experience
- 0-5 years of experience developing technological business solution projects with a focus on user-focused design.
- Ability to produce high-quality work products with attention to detail

Preferred:
- Master's degree in Computer Science or MBA
- At least 5 years of experience Developing technological business solution projects with a focus on user-focused design.
- Experience with PJM operations, markets, and planning functions
- Experience in developing applications using Oracle PL/SQL
