Challenge
As a Sr. Backend Engineer - Python you will be focused team building and maintaining "billing adapters" - critical components that enable our platform to ingest new sources of cost data from various vendors, including OpenAI, Anthropic, and other cost-generating services. You'll work as part of a small, collaborative team under the guidance of an experienced team lead.
What you'll do
- Build and maintain billing adapters that integrate with various vendor APIs to extract cost and usage data
- Develop data transformation pipelines to convert vendor-specific billing data into the company proprietary internal data format
- Work with REST APIs from different cost data vendors to retrieve billing information
- Write clean, maintainable code following established patterns and best practices
- Collaborate with team members on code reviews and technical problem-solving
- Test and debug adapter implementations to ensure reliable data ingestion
- Document your work to support team knowledge-sharing and maintenance
- Participate in technical discussions about implementation approaches and system design
- Support existing adapters with bug fixes and feature enhancements
In order to succeed in this position, you will need:
Mandatory skills
- 2+ years of Python experience with solid understanding of backend development concepts
- Experience with REST API integration and working with third-party APIs
- Basic knowledge of AWS services, particularly Lambda and S3
- Understanding of data processing and transformation concepts
- Familiarity with JSON/XML data formats and parsing techniques
- Experience with version control (Git) and collaborative development workflows
- Knowledge of testing frameworks and writing unit tests
- Strong problem-solving skills with attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities
- It must be okay with some overlap with the US East Coast time zone.
Nice to have
- Previous experience with billing or financial data systems
- Familiarity with cloud provider billing APIs (AWS, GCP, Azure)
- Experience with data pipeline frameworks or ETL processes
- Knowledge of SaaS platform development
- Understanding of cost management or FinOps concepts
