Manager, Revenue Accounting

The Manager, Revenue Accounting serves a critical role within the Company's accounting organization by leading the accounting, analytics, reporting, and governance activities associated with the Company's largest revenue stream — commissions. This position is responsible for ensuring operational commission activity is translated into accurate, GAAP-compliant financial reporting under ASC 606 through the preparation, review, and oversight of long-term value ("LTV") estimates, contract assets, revenue adjustments, and related financial statement impacts.

Unlike a traditional accounting role focused primarily on transactional processing and close activities, this position operates at the intersection of accounting, data analytics, business operations, and technology. The Manager will partner closely with Business Unit leadership, Sales Operations, Commissions Operations, FP&A, Financial Reporting, Technical Accounting, Internal Audit, IT, and Data & Analytics teams to understand key business drivers, evaluate impacts on revenue recognition, and provide meaningful insights to management.

This individual will lead the development and maintenance of accounting and analytical models, leverage Snowflake and automation technologies to improve scalability and efficiency, support financial reporting and MD&A processes and help design and enhance a robust control environment supporting sustainable growth and strong governance.

What You’ll Do

Revenue Recognition & LTV Accounting

  • Oversee all aspects of the Company's LTV accounting framework, including the preparation, review, and governance of revenue recognition estimates and related contract asset balances.
  • Partner with business leaders and operational teams to understand key drivers impacting commission revenue, persistency, production trends, carrier relationships, and other assumptions utilized in revenue recognition models.
  • Translate operational commission activity into ASC 606-compliant accounting outcomes through analytical reviews, estimation processes, and financial reporting adjustments.
  • Evaluate trends, risks, and changes in business operations that may impact revenue recognition assumptions, estimates, and financial results.
  • Formalize accounting policies, methodologies, and documentation supporting acquired contract assets, LTV estimates, and other significant revenue-related judgments.
  • Collaborate with Technical Accounting on complex accounting matters, acquisitions, and new business initiatives affecting revenue recognition.

Data Analytics, Technology & Automation

  • Own and maintain revenue, LTV, contract asset, and cash analytics models supporting management reporting and financial statement accuracy.
  • Utilize Snowflake and other data platforms to develop scalable reporting, reconciliation, and analytical solutions.
  • Partner with IT, Data & Analytics, and business stakeholders to automate manual accounting processes and enhance reporting capabilities.
  • Identify opportunities to leverage automation, AI-enabled solutions, and technology platforms to improve efficiency, control effectiveness, and reporting quality.
  • Perform advanced data analysis to identify trends, anomalies, forecasting opportunities, and operational insights that support strategic decision-making.

Financial Reporting, MD&A & Executive Analytics

  • Lead monthly and quarterly close activities related to revenue accounting, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial statement support.
  • Prepare and review revenue-related MD&A, flux analysis, and executive reporting to explain business performance, estimate changes, and period-over-period movements.
  • Partner closely with Financial Reporting and FP&A teams to support quarterly reporting, executive presentations, budgeting, forecasting, and key business analyses.
  • Develop and communicate insights to senior leadership regarding revenue trends, contract asset performance, cash realization, and key business drivers.
  • Support preparation of revenue-related financial statement disclosures, schedules, and reporting packages.

Controls, Governance & Compliance

  • Design, implement, and monitor Internal Controls over Financial Reporting (ICFR) supporting revenue accounting, key estimates, data integrity, and financial reporting processes.
  • Partner with Internal Audit, SOX teams, and external auditors to support audits, walkthroughs, testing activities, and remediation efforts.
  • Lead risk assessments and proactively identify opportunities to strengthen controls, reduce risk, and improve process efficiency.
  • Prepare and maintain accounting policies, process narratives, control documentation, and technical memoranda supporting revenue accounting activities.

Strategic Initiatives & Leadership

  • Participate in and lead key strategic initiatives, including ERP implementations, finance transformation projects, reporting modernization efforts, acquisitions integration, and process centralization activities.
  • Build strong cross-functional relationships across Accounting, FP&A, Operations, IT, Internal Audit, and Executive Leadership.
  • Provide leadership, coaching, mentoring, and professional development for Revenue Accounting team members.
  • Establish and monitor KPIs to measure process effectiveness, reporting quality, and operational performance while driving continuous improvement initiatives.

Who You Are

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Active CPA preferred.
  • 5–7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including public accounting and/or public-company reporting experience preferred.
  • Strong understanding of ASC 606 revenue recognition, accounting estimates, financial reporting, and internal controls.
  • Experience developing and maintaining complex financial and analytical models.
  • Strong analytical mindset with the ability to interpret large datasets and translate results into actionable business insights.
  • Experience working with Snowflake, Power BI, Tableau, SQL, Alteryx, or similar reporting and analytics platforms preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience leveraging automation and technology to improve accounting processes and reporting capabilities.
  • Experience supporting SOX-compliant environments and public-company financial reporting requirements.
  • Proven ability to manage cross-functional projects and influence stakeholders across multiple business functions.
