Job Description

Visa USA Inc., a Visa Inc. company, needs a Sr. Associate Counsel, Legal (multiple openings) in San Francisco, CA to:

  • Support Visa’s Global Product, IP and Solutions Group within the Legal department.
  • Responsible for supporting a variety of products, services, and operational functions, either as the lead attorney or as part of a team of experienced counsel, including core product suite (credit, debit, prepaid, commercial), value-added services, new payments flows, mobile, digital, fraud, identity, and Visa developer platform.
  • Work closely with other experienced lawyers and compliance professionals.
  • Engage with senior-level business clients.
  • Position reports to the San Francisco, California office and may allow for partial telecommuting.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree, or foreign equivalent, in Law, Legal Studies, or related field, and 5 years of experience in the job offered or in a legal counsel-related occupation.
  • Experience must include:
    • Domestic and cross-border payments and technology transactions industry experience;
    • Managing and driving legal and regulatory aspects of complex business initiatives;
    • Working closely with business and technology teams, including senior management, to understand and achieve key business objectives and help them develop compelling product and service offerings;
    • Drafting, negotiating, and driving to completion complex commercial agreements that achieve business objectives;
    • Providing counseling and advice to senior-level business and technology teams regarding product development, deployment, and associated commercial and contracting considerations;
    • Working closely with regional and local legal and business teams globally and assisting these teams in resolving regional and local issues, including to achieve consistency on approaches and issues; and
    • Initiating and helping drive process and efficiency improvements across the legal team.
  • Must be licensed to practice law in the state of California.

Additional Information

Worksite: San Francisco, CA

This is a hybrid position. Hybrid employees can alternate time between both remote and office. Employees in hybrid roles are expected to work from the office 2-3 set days a week (determined by leadership/site), with a general guidepost of being in the office 50% or more of the time based on business needs.

Travel Requirements: This position does not require travel.

Mental/Physical Requirements: This position will be performed in an office setting.  The position will require the incumbent to sit and stand at a desk, communicate in person and by telephone, frequently operate standard office equipment, such as telephones and computers.

U.S. APPLICANTS ONLY: The estimated salary range for a new hire into this position is $178,360.00 USD to $283,100.00 USD per year, which may include potential sales incentive payments (if applicable). Salary may vary depending on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location. In addition, this position may be eligible for bonus and equity. Visa has a comprehensive benefits package for which this position may be eligible that includes Medical, Dental, Vision, 401 (k), FSA/HSA, Life Insurance, Paid Time Off, and Wellness Program.
