OVERVIEW:

Aramco Americas is establishing a state‑of‑the‑art research center in Houston dedicated to advancing CO₂ capture, low‑carbon liquid fuels and chemicals, renewable energy, and storage solutions, as well as artificial intelligence applications in the energy sector. The center’s mission is to transform early‑stage, low‑TRL research into mid‑level technologies (TRL 5–7), bridging the gap between fundamental discovery and practical deployment.


SCOPE:
Aramco Americas is seeking senior researchers to advance the application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) in support of Aramco’s sustainability and energy transition initiatives. This position will focus on identifying, adapting, and applying AI/ML technologies to address practical challenges across sustainable energy systems, emissions reduction, and operational efficiency. The role will work closely with laboratory scientists, process development engineers, and business stakeholders to translate sustainability challenges into data-driven solutions, support decision-making, and accelerate the adoption of AI-enabled tools from concept through deployment. The ideal candidate will bring a broad understanding of AI/ML applications, sustainability domains, and systems-level thinking, complemented by strong project leadership, stakeholder engagement, and program management capabilities.

  

PRINCIPAL DUTIES:

  • Design, develop, and validate advanced AI/ML models for energy transition projects.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders and domain experts to understand challenges, frame AI‑ready problem statements, and identify high‑impact solutions.
  • Lead end‑to‑end AI initiatives, including data acquisition, feature engineering, model deployment, and performance monitoring.
  • Integrate AI solutions into existing systems, digital twins, and operational workflows.
  • Stay abreast of AI research and translate emerging methods into practical, real‑world applications.
  • Work across cross‑functional teams, providing technical guidance, mentorship, and leadership.
  • Contribute to technical outputs, including documentation, patents, and peer‑reviewed publications.
  •  Drive collaborative research both internally (with other R&D groups) and externally (with academic partners).
  • Maintain a safe, accident‑free laboratory environment, adhering to all company safety policies and procedures.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ph.D. in Engineering or a relevant Science discipline, aligned with the expertise required for the assigned role.
  • Nine (9) years of experience in a substantive industrial, technological, or laboratory setting directly related to the job’s focus.
  • Preferred background in research involving theoretical, computational, modeling, and/or simulation, with demonstrated application of advanced AI/ML methods to accelerate, enhance, or transform these areas. Coding in PyTorch, TensorFlow, JAX skills are also required.
  • Must be able to communicate and comprehend accurately, clearly and concisely in English at a level required to perform the job as outlined.
  • Candidate should be comfortable in working independently or part of a project team, frequent project presentation and travel to meetings at conferences and universities.  Must possess good work habits, a strong work ethic, and be able to adhere to company work hours, policies, and standard business etiquette.
