Job Title: Senior Architect - Control Plane
Job Description:
F5 Distributed Cloud is looking for a Sr Architect specializing in control plane technologies to drive the design and evolution of the orchestration, configuration, and lifecycle management systems underpinning our global SaaS platform. This role will define and guide architectural strategy for scalable, highly available, and secure control planes operating across multi-cloud and edge environments. You will:
Lead architecture and design of control plane components responsible for orchestrating and managing globally distributed SaaS services.
Work closely with product and development teams to ensure software and product architectures are developed in line with the vision and future direction of the company.
Evaluate emerging technologies and paradigms (e.g., service mesh, control plane sharding, operator frameworks) for inclusion in our architecture.
Drive projects and the workflow of teams, serving as mentor to all engineering levels.
Partner with management on driving product timelines.
Participate in cross-functional design projects, serving as consultant to management in long-range company planning concerning new or projected areas of technological research/advancement.
Collaborate with product, SRE, and development teams to define scalable, secure, and fault-tolerant designs aligned with platform goals.
Influence and shape technical strategy across networking, service discovery, workload orchestration, configuration management, and telemetry.
Mentor and guide engineers at all levels, instilling architectural best practices and technical leadership across multiple teams.
Represent architecture in planning forums, contributing to roadmap prioritization and long-range technical strategy and roadmap.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Define control plane patterns for service registration, configuration propagation, rollout orchestration, and policy enforcement across cloud and edge environments.
Drive architectural reviews, design validations, and threat models to ensure operational, security, and scalability concerns are addressed early.
Leading software development projects.
Documenting and recording every aspect of an application or software.
Planning, tracking and scheduling software deliverables.
Looking for problems within software systems and driving issues to resolution.
Developing good working relationships with other employees, such as UX, Marketing Managers, Product Managers, Programmers and Engineers.
Skills and Qualifications:
15+ years designing control plane systems in a distributed environment.
Experience designing and implementing distributed cloud solutions at scale.
Experience designing multi-tenant, multi-region, and multi-cloud SaaS control planes.
Experience with load balancers, proxies or with routing products.
Understanding of containers and orchestration technologies.
Broad understanding of coding and programming languages.
Experience with data storage, design and data modeling.
Extensive knowledge of the software development process and corresponding technologies.
Excellent understanding of design patterns and architectural styles.
Proficient knowledge of the operation, development & designs of agile software.
Strong soft skills, including attention to detail, problem-solving and communication skills.

The annual base pay for this position is: $261,600.00 - $392,400.00F5 maintains broad salary ranges for its roles in order to account for variations in knowledge, skills, experience, geographic locations, and market conditions, as well as to reflect F5’s differing products, industries, and lines of business. The pay range referenced is as of the time of the job posting and is subject to change.
