The Opportunity
Reporting to the Manager, Regulatory Reporting, this Senior Financial Analyst (“SFA”) position is a key member of the finance team. This role provides opportunities for cross-functional collaboration with stakeholders across Finance, other business areas, and Definity-owned subsidiaries.
What to Expect
Financial Consolidation & Reporting
- Own the monthly consolidation process for Westmount Financial Inc. and its subsidiaries, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting.
- Prepare and review consolidation entries, including intercompany eliminations, broker commission eliminations, dividend accounting, and intercompany loan and interest balances.
- Support accounting and reporting requirements related to lease accounting, IFRS 17, and other reporting standards.
- Support annual financial statement note disclosures.
- Support the preparation, analysis, and review of the Minimum Capital Test (MCT), including working papers, regulatory filings, and compliance with applicable regulatory requirements.
- Assist with regulatory surveys and other corporate reporting requirements.
- Develop and maintain working papers and supporting documentation for newly acquired entities, ensuring consistency with established reporting practices.
Regulatory Reporting
General Ledger Close Support
- Support the monthly close processes through preparation, review, and upload of journal entries and financial results into the general ledger.
- Coordinate financial data submissions from legal entities and ensure completeness and accuracy of reporting packages.
- Prepare supporting schedules and analyses required for month-end, quarter-end, and year-end reporting.
- Provide ad hoc accounting and reporting support across the Finance team as required.
Systems & Process Improvement
- Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, automation, and controls within financial reporting processes.
- Leverage technology, including advanced Excel functionality, automation tools, and AI-enabled solutions, to streamline recurring activities and enhance reporting quality.
Team Collaboration & Leadership
- Act as a trusted business partner within Finance and provide support and guidance to team members.
- Serve as a backup resource for key accounting and reporting functions within the team.
- Contribute to a collaborative team environment through knowledge sharing, continuous improvement, and process documentation.
What you Bring
- University or college degree in business, finance, or related program
- A CPA accounting designation (SFA), or working towards a CPA accounting designation
- Strong understanding of financial reporting, consolidation, and intercompany accounting.
- Advanced Excel skills, including experience working with sophisticated financial models.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet competing deadlines.
- 3+ years of progressive accounting and financial reporting experience.
- Professional, friendly and courteous in all interactions
Preferred
- Experience with insurance industry accounting, IFRS 17, or similar complex reporting environments.
- Experience supporting acquisitions, integration activities, or multi-entity reporting structures.
Salary Range: $73,500 - $123,500
