What is the key purpose of a Sr. AI Engineering Manager?

As a Sr. AI Engineering Manager in our R&D department based in Taiwan, You will lead multiple R&D teams in the development of AI driven products and services within our platforms. You are essential to our mission of building scalable and intelligent solutions that enhance our platform’s performance, user experience, and business value. You will bring a strong blend of technical expertise, project management skills, and leadership qualities to support a group of talented engineers and data scientists. Additionally, you will involve working closely with cross-functional stakeholders across product, marketing, and operations to align development with overall company goals.

What skills and qualifications do I need?

For this role, it is essential that you have:

  • Experience:
    • 6+ years hands-on experience in software development and data science (preferably using Java and/or Python), with a minimum of 3 years in a managerial role overseeing multiple teams.
    • Proven track record of managing complex, large-scale R&D projects in a tech-driven environment, preferably within an online platform or SaaS company.
  • Education:
    • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Technical Knowledge:
    • Strong understanding of backend architectures (e.g., microservices, distributed systems) and data science principles (e.g., data analytics, machine learning, generative AI & LLMs, big data processing).
    • Familiarity with cloud platforms, data pipelines, and deployment best practices.
  • Project Management Skills:
    • Proficiency in Agile or similar project management methodologies, with a history of managing resources, timelines, and project risks effectively.
    • Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities, with the capability to oversee multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Leadership Skills
    • Proven experience mentoring, motivating, and developing high-performing technical teams.
  • Interpersonal Skills
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to build relationships across teams and resolve conflicts effectively.
  • Strategic Mindset:
    • Ability to align team goals with broader business objectives and make decisions that impact long-term outcomes.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in the online platform industry, with a focus on backend and AI solutions.
  • Knowledge of data privacy, security, and compliance in relation to online platforms.
  • Strong analytical mindset with the ability to make data-driven decisions and strategic recommendations.

What will I be doing on a day-to-day basis?

As a Sr. AI Engineering Manager, you will:

  • Team Leadership & Development:
    • Lead and manage multiple R&D teams focused on backend development and data science, fostering a collaborative, innovative, and results-oriented work environment.
    • Guide team leads and members in their professional growth, providing mentorship, constructive feedback, and development opportunities to help them achieve their potential.
    • Foster an inclusive, supportive team culture. Regularly interact with team members to ensure high engagement, well-being, and productivity.
  • Project & Resource Management:
    • Oversee the planning, execution, and delivery of R&D projects, ensuring alignment with timelines, resources, and company objectives.
    • Implement project management best practices to optimize workflows, set realistic milestones, and monitor project progress across multiple teams.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration:
    • Act as a liaison between R&D and other departments to ensure seamless integration of development work with broader business goals and cross-functional initiatives.
    • Collaborate with cross-functional project teams to define project requirements, share updates, and incorporate feedback, ensuring that all stakeholders are aligned.
  • Technical Oversight:
    • Drive the technical direction of backend systems and data science initiatives, making high-level design decisions and ensuring that solutions are robust, scalable, and aligned with best practices.
    • Stay informed on industry trends and emerging technologies, integrating relevant advancements into the team’s development practices where appropriate.
  • Strategic Planning & Execution:
    • Participate in strategic planning sessions to contribute to the company’s R&D roadmap, bringing insights into current capabilities and identifying areas for innovation.
    • Work with senior leadership to establish priorities, evaluate new opportunities, and ensure that team objectives support the organization’s growth.
