The Senior Investment Accountant will be responsible for the accounting, analysis, reconciliation, and reporting of derivative and limited partnership investments for The Hartford and its external clients. This role partners with portfolio management and senior leadership, contributing to financial reporting, earnings guidance, and strategic insights related to complex investment structures.
This role will have a Hybrid work arrangement, with the expectation of working in an office (Hartford, CT) 3 days a week (Tuesday through Thursday).
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform accounting for derivative instruments in accordance with both GAAP and Statutory accounting standards.
- Analyze and reconcile financial results for limited partnership investments, including net investment income, market values, and impairment considerations, based on fund capital statements.
- Prepare derivative and limited partnership plans and outlooks used in earnings guidance, including detailed variance analysis.
- Prepare and analyze derivative and limited partnership disclosures for SEC Form 10‑Q and 10‑K filings, as well as quarterly and annual NAIC filings.
- Develop, support, and maintain information delivery related to derivatives and limited partnerships, including senior management presentations and materials supporting the quarterly earnings call.
- Identify and implement process improvements and efficiencies, including the effective use of generative AI tools.
- Partner with portfolio management to understand investment strategies, portfolio trends, and the accounting implications of new initiatives.
- Support hedge documentation and effectiveness testing to ensure compliance with hedge accounting requirements.
- Maintain Sarbanes‑Oxley documentation and support ongoing monitoring of internal controls.
What are the qualifications for this position?
- Bachelor's degree in accounting/finance or related field required, CPA a plus
- 3+ years of accounting, reporting or finance experience
- Basic knowledge of capital markets with a desire to learn investment strategies, although an investment background is not required
- Proactive individual with well-developed communication, analytical and documentation skills
- Ability to react and successfully balance multiple competing priorities under strict time constraints
- Ability to take initiative to research and resolve issues
- Strong computer skills, genAI research and application skills, and desire to learn new applications (Maximis, Business Objects, PAFE, WDesk)
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team

Compensation
The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:
