The Senior Accountant plays a key role in the monthly close and tax compliance processes, ensuring accurate financial reporting and timely statutory and tax filings. This role is responsible for preparing and reviewing journal entries, reconciliations, and financial analyses, while supporting federal, state, and local tax filings and registrations and maintaining compliance with accounting standards, tax laws, and internal policies.

What you will do:

Primary Function (major purpose/ objective of the job):

The Senior Accountant plays a key role in the monthly close and tax compliance processes, ensuring accurate financial reporting and timely statutory and tax filings. This role is responsible for preparing and reviewing journal entries, reconciliations, and financial analyses, while supporting federal, state, and local tax filings and registrations and maintaining compliance with accounting standards, tax laws, and internal policies.

Principal Responsibilities / Objectives (min 4, max 6 objectives):

Responsible for general ledger and month-end closing processes:

  • Prepare journal entries and reconcile balance sheet accounts to ensure accurate reporting
  • Analyze account information and flux activity on payroll, bonus/long-term incentive, health benefits, deferred compensation, tax-related accounts, accounts receivable, and reserves
  • Perform quality assurance and review of revenues and customer billings
  • Maintaining internal control documentation and operating procedures
  • Ensure generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) compliance in areas of responsibility

Responsible for business registrations and tax filings across all entities including all federal, state, and local tax compliance:

  • Coordinate timely and accurate preparation of income tax returns with external tax firm by completing information requests, estimated payments, and extension payments timely
  • Research and resolve all tax notices received from Federal and State taxing authorities collaborating with Controller and external tax firms as needed for applicable resolution
  • Oversee sales tax software, sales tax filing frequency, and state sales tax returns within sales tax software. Validate integration with accounting system to ensure accurate calculation of sales tax.
  • Maintain access logins with all federal, state, and local agencies in spreadsheet
  • Create and maintain centralized tracking spreadsheet of all filings and renewal dates
  • Manage the company’s business licenses/registrations, US Census Bureau, annual report filings, and other tax and miscellaneous filings. May require registering in new jurisdictions and coordinating with our registered agent.
  • Stay current on changes to sales tax and income tax regulation

Assist with forecasting, budgeting, reporting, audits, contract review, and other ad hoc projects or due diligence assignments as needed, including research and analysis.

Ideal candidate:

Education:

  • B. S. Degree in Accounting required

Experience:

  • CPA strongly preferred
  • 3+ years of public accounting and/or related SaaS/technology industry experience
  • General knowledge of GAAP
  • Ability to read and understand financial statements.

Specialized Skills:

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be detail oriented and have strong analytical skills.
  • Must be self directed and able to work with minimal supervision in a fast-paced professional environment.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, with a strong emphasis in Excel
  • Experience with Dynamics 365, Salesforce, Avalara, or Power BI a plus

The starting salary range for this full-time position is $78600 - $98200 per year. This base pay will take into consideration internal equity, candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge and experience among other factors. Origence maintains a highly competitive compensation program. Under company guidelines, this position is eligible for an annual bonus to provide an incentive to achieve targeted goals. Bonuses are awarded at company’s discretion on an individual basis.

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting
