Founded in 1920, Akerman is recognized as one of the country’s premier law firms, with more than 700 lawyers in 25 offices throughout the United States. Akerman is seeking an experienced Accountant for its Financial Services Department.  The firm has adopted a hybrid schedule.

The position will be responsible for general accounting duties including (but not limited to):

  • Review and approve monthly trust bank reconciliations in accordance with company policies and procedures.
  • Review the company's monthly office lease rent roll, ensuring accuracy and completeness of lease-related data.
  • Assisting with identifying opportunities to improve accounting processes, controls, and efficiencies
  • Developing and maintain accounting procedures and documentation
  • Periodically reviewing work prepared by others
  • Supporting month-end and year-end close processes
  • Identifying and recording necessary journal entries
  • Reconciling balance sheet and bank accounts
  • Performing an analytical review of accounts for variances and unusual activity
  • Preparing tax schedules and financial reports
  • Assisting in the annual audit
  • Releasing trust wires  
  • Supporting and reviewing key controls
  • Other duties and projects as required

The position requires a high level of accuracy and attention to detail while working under time-sensitive deadlines with minimal supervision. Qualified candidates will have excellent verbal and written communication skills and strong computer skills including MS Excel.  We require a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting with a minimum of five (5) years of related work experience preferably in a law firm setting.  Experience with 3E, Sage Fixed Assets and Emburse is a plus.
