We are seeking an experienced Senior SQL Database Administrator to join our Information Technology team on a 2 year fixed term full-time basis, based in our Archerfield office.

Reporting to the Enterprise Applications Platform Manager, you will play a key role in ensuring the stability, performance, security and availability of Hastings Deering's Microsoft SQL environment. This role is responsible for the administration, optimisation and continuous improvement of SQL database platforms that support critical business applications across the organisation.

Working closely with internal stakeholders, project teams and external partners, you will provide expert technical guidance while helping to deliver reliable, scalable and high-performing database solutions that support business outcomes.

What you'll be doing:

  • Administer, maintain and optimise Microsoft SQL Server environments to ensure performance, reliability and high availability.
  • Monitor database health, troubleshoot issues and perform performance tuning.
  • Develop and maintain backup, disaster recovery and business continuity solutions.
  • Support projects with database design, implementation, migration and integration activities.
  • Ensure data security, integrity, governance and best-practice database management.
  • Provide Level 3 support and manage external vendors where required.
  • Conduct database testing and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Identify optimisation opportunities and support enterprise architecture and platform governance.

What you'll need:

A successful teammate will have:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Information Technology, Computer Science or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in SQL Database Administration within an enterprise environment.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server, including high availability solutions and Always On Availability Groups.
  • Strong SQL scripting to be able to work through complex data structures
  • Experience designing, implementing and supporting database architectures and data management solutions.
  • Knowledge of backup, disaster recovery and business continuity practices.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience working with a broad range of stakeholders and translating technical concepts into business outcomes.
  • Microsoft SQL certifications highly regarded.
  • A proactive approach to continuous improvement and operational excellence.

Desirable but not essential:

  • Experience supporting Microsoft Dynamics AX environments.
  • Experience with Commvault backup solutions and SLA management.
  • Experience supporting Exchange and Microsoft 365 environments.

Skills Required
