Program Overview & Job Summary:
Under the supervision of the Sports Department Program Managers, referees are responsible for officiating basketball games or competitions (both indoor and outdoor) for the Police Athletic League.
Major Duties & Responsibilities:
1. Must have knowledge of the rules of basketball and the modified rules by the Sports Department.
2. Referee youth games, while keeping the youth safe and the games under control.
3. Serve as a role model for the participants.
4. Must be able to communicate with Coaches effectively.
5. Officiate or judge activities occurring either indoor or outdoor
6. Keep track of event times, starting and stopping play when necessary
7. Must wear referee jerseys when working games.
Additional Responsibilities:
1. Responsible for the overall officiating/judging of sports, program activities and/or events to maintain standards.
2. Submit written and verbal reports as requested.
3. When directed, attend meetings with staff as needed to assist in program delivery and promotion of programs.
4. Interact with positively with parents and keep open lines of communication to better understand and manage the youth.
Pay: $40 per game

QualificationsSkills/Knowledge Required
· High school diploma or GED
· Previous referring experience (on any level)
· Need to have an eye for detail and possess strong verbal communication, decision-making and leadership skills
· Ability to easily resolve conflicts and utilize above-average customer service skills
· Ability to be on your feet for long periods of time – standing, walking and running will be required during events
· Ability to work in stressful situations
