General Statement of Duties:
Coordinates and disseminates to internal and external audiences information regarding Intercollegiate Athletics. This position compiles and tracks team and individual student-athlete statistics, maintains department website, writes and distributes press releases, maintains and updates athletics social media, and contacts local and regional media outlets regarding intercollegiate athletic stories of interest.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities*
- Establishes relationships with local, regional and national media.
- Collaborates with the Director of Athletics to create and implement the PR strategy for the Athletics department.
- Creates and posts department press releases.
- Designs and produces game programs.
- Collects statistics for each home athletics contest.
- Submits statistics to appropriate governing bodies (e.g., NCAA, CoSida) on a timely basis.
- Updates and maintains website daily. Works closely with website vendor on other updates.
- Maintains department, team and individual statistical records.
- Completes and submits applications for national/conference awards, honors or distinctions.
- Trains and supervises student workers on statistical software.
- Staffs home athletic contests with sports information personnel. Coordinates with the Assistant Athletics Director to ensure payment.
- Coordinates department photography and storage of sports images.
Secondary Duties and Responsibilities*
- Supports live video streaming.
- May supervise student assistants including, a videographer.
Functional/Technical Skills*
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Organizational skills.
- Proficiency with desktop publishing software.
- Knowledge of statistical programs.
- Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations.
- Ability to work nights and weekends.
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university.
- Minimum one (1) year of experience in sports information or other writing-related position.
- Experience with statistical software.
- Experience managing and updating a website.
- Experience maintaining and updating social media.
- Strong communications skills, both written and verbal. and interpersonal skills.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
- Ability to exercise important human relations skills in establishing and maintaining effective working relations with the university community and the public.
- Ability to maintain composure when faced with difficult situations and to effectively identify and resolve problems and to maintain strict confidentiality related to sensitive information.
