We are the leading voice for the Kansas City Chiefs in the region, and our coverage of sports at the University of Kansas, Kansas State University, Emporia State University and Washburn University is unparalleled. Our commitment extends to telling compelling stories about athletes from various high schools throughout Kansas.
We are seeking a Sports Director to lead our three-person sports team in both broadcast and digital efforts. This role involves managing the production of a weekly KU/K-State sports show and collaborating with the News Director to enhance local news content with relevant live sports coverage. Key Responsibilities:
- Broadcast and Digital Production: Produce and anchor sports reports across all platforms, ensuring content is clear, engaging, and meaningful to our audience.
- Content Standards: Uphold company standards for journalistic integrity and production quality in all sports content.
- Breaking News: Respond to breaking sports events and other urgent newsroom situations as required.
- Promotional Activities: Participate in promotional activities, including public appearances.
- Special Projects: Perform special projects and other duties as assigned.
- Video Production: Shoot and edit video clips for television broadcasts and eMedia content.
- Story Writing: Write stories for the website and other eMedia platforms.
- Viewer Interaction: Engage with viewers and users on social media sites.
Requirements & Skills:
- Professional Experience: Demonstrated experience in sports reporting or anchoring.
- Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and work-related experience.
- Sports Knowledge: Comprehensive knowledge of sports and related activities.
- Communication Skills: Fluency in English with excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to ad lib as needed.
- On-Air Presence: Superior on-air presence.
- Leadership: Experience in guiding, directing, and motivating others, with the ability to identify developmental needs and coach team members.
- Technical Proficiency: Proficiency with computers, telephones, copiers, scanners, fax machines, and other office equipment.
- Multitasking: Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments, and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Team Collaboration: Effective listening skills to understand problems fully and communicate solutions with the team.
- Driver’s License: Valid driver's license with a good driving record.
- Shift Flexibility: Willingness to work any shift as needed.
We look forward to finding a dynamic and dedicated individual to join our team and elevate our sports coverage to new heights.
