Position Summary

The Sports Coordinator & Assignor is responsible for the day-to-day coordination and administration of CYO athletic programs throughout Brooklyn and Queens. This position oversees league scheduling, officiating assignments, sports operations, and communication with participating parishes, Athletic Directors, coaches, officials, and facilities. Working under the general direction of the Executive Director, the Sports Coordinator & Assignor is expected to independently manage routine league operations, resolve scheduling and officiating issues, and ensure CYO programs operate efficiently and consistently with established policies and procedures.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Coordinate day-to-day operations for CYO sports and athletic programs.
  • Develop and maintain regular-season, playoff, and championship schedules.
  • Manage game changes, cancellations, postponements, facility conflicts, and rescheduling throughout each season.
  • Assign officials to CYO contests based on availability, experience, location, and level of competition.
  • Manage officiating changes and ensure appropriate coverage for scheduled games.
  • Maintain regular communication with Parish Athletic Representatives (PARs), Athletic Directors, coaches, officials, facilities, and Sport Coordinators.
  • Serve as a primary resource for questions and issues involving schedules, competition, officials, venues, and league operations.
  • Utilize CYO Connect and other designated systems to maintain schedules, team information, venues, officials, scores, standings, and other league records.
  • Assist with team registration, division placement, roster and eligibility review, and enforcement of established CYO policies and deadlines.
  • Coordinate playoff brackets, championship schedules, officials, facilities, and event logistics.
  • Assist with the recruitment, onboarding, communication, and development of CYO officials.
  • Maintain accurate records related to officiating assignments, completed games, and payment reconciliation.
  • Monitor league operations and independently resolve routine operational issues, escalating significant disciplinary, eligibility, or policy matters to the Executive Director.
  • Assist with preseason planning and postseason evaluation and recommend improvements to scheduling, officiating, and league procedures.
  • Attend and provide operational support at CYO meetings, playoffs, championships, and other events as needed.
  • Perform other duties related to CYO sports administration as assigned by the Executive Director.
QualificationsQualifications
  • Experience in sports administration, athletic operations, officiating, scheduling, recreation, or a related field preferred.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple sports, schedules, and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment, solve problems, and make timely operational decisions.
  • Ability to communicate professionally with administrators, coaches, officials, volunteers, parents, and other stakeholders.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records.
  • Comfortable using scheduling software, databases, Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and other technology platforms.
  • Bachelor's degree in Sports Management, Business Administration, Recreation, Education, or a related field preferred.
  • Previous experience with youth, interscholastic, collegiate, recreational, or nonprofit athletics is preferred.
Schedule & Work Requirements

This is a full-time salaried position requiring flexibility based on the CYO sports calendar. Evening and weekend availability is required during active seasons, particularly for league operations, playoffs, championships, and special events. The Sports Coordinator & Assignor will work independently within established CYO policies while collaborating closely with the Executive Director, CYO staff, Sport Coordinators, participating parishes, and officials.
