As a Splicer, you will:
- Fuse or mechanical splice SM or MM fiber optic cables, to include terminate various type of fiber optic connectors (SC, LC, APC).
- Work with GIS and/or division to perform fusion splicing as directed.
- Installation and testing of pressurized and non-pressurized closures on all types of sizes of cable.
- Experience and knowledge using Fiber Optic Scope, OTDR, Light Meter, and Power Source.
- Experience in installation of businesses and GPON deployment.
- Provide management with detailed reports of field splicing activity.
- Maintain fiber asset inventory and splicing records.
Requirements
- Must reside in or relocate to within 30 minutes of of the Salem, Oregon Area
- Must have a valid driver's license with a clean record.
- Be available to be on an on-call rotation every several weeks.
- Must be available to work overtime as needed.
- Must be available to work all shifts, including night shifts, if needed.
- Must be able to work longer than normal shifts during outages
Experience requirements:
- 2 years or more of fiber splicing experience in active plant
- Must be able to work independently without supervision.
- Ability to read prints, read and comprehend splice instructions
- Complete production paperwork with correct splice case information
- Operating aerial lifts
- Entering confined spaces
- Able to prep a variety of splice cases
- Ability to troubleshoot rings and audit plant
- Experience performing cable mid-sheath/ring cut
- Fusion splice fibers, operate and read an OTDR
- Certificate of Fiber Optic training a plus
- Basic knowledge of MS Office and basic computer skills to look up maps
Working conditions:
- Works primarily outside in a variety of weather conditions.
Physical Requirements:
- Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 lb. Ability to operate standard tools. Frequent standing, walking, bending, crouching, climbing, and twisting for prolonged periods; use of hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls and reach with hands and arms; specific vision requirements include close vision and the ability to adjust focus, ability to distinguish color in graphs, charts, etc. Must be able to communicate and be understood clearly; hearing ability requirements include ability to interact with employees and customers.

What We Do
Hunter Communications, a Southern Oregon based Telecommunications Company, CLEC and ISP, was founded in 1992, providing service for local area networks, wide area networks and everything in between. In 2000, Hunter started building an all-fiber network throughout Medford with the vision of a Metropolitan Area Network (MAN) in rural Southern Oregon.
