Mercy is seeking a compassionate and patient-focused Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to join our Dermatology Clinic team. In this role, you will work closely with providers and clinical staff to deliver exceptional care to patients with a variety of skin, hair, and nail conditions. Position OverviewThe Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) utilizes the nursing process to provide patient care under the supervision of a licensed provider or Registered Nurse (RN). The LPN is responsible for coordinating patient care, communicating effectively with patients and the healthcare team, assisting with dermatologic procedures, and ensuring a positive patient experience throughout the continuum of care.
Key ResponsibilitiesPatient Care & Clinical Support- Room patients and obtain vital signs, health histories, and medication information.
- Perform patient assessments and communicate significant findings to the provider or RN.
- Assist dermatology providers with examinations, biopsies, excisions, cryotherapy, and other in-office procedures.
- Prepare patients for procedures and provide post-procedure care instructions.
- Administer medications, injections, and treatments within the LPN scope of practice.
- Monitor patient progress and communicate changes in condition to the appropriate team members.
- Reinforce provider instructions and educate patients regarding skin conditions, treatment plans, and medications.
- Schedule and coordinate follow-up appointments, referrals, and diagnostic testing as needed.
- Communicate subjective and objective patient information with providers and multidisciplinary team members.
- Facilitate smooth patient flow throughout the clinic.
- Assist with patient handoffs and care transitions utilizing established patient safety practices.
- Collaborate with providers and clinical staff to prioritize patient care needs.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record.
- Document nursing interventions, patient responses, and educational activities.
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, providers, pharmacies, and other healthcare professionals.
- Maintain confidentiality of patient information and uphold patient rights at all times.
- Complete required nursing competencies, certifications, and continuing education.
- Participate in department meetings, clinic huddles, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Follow Mercy policies, procedures, infection prevention standards, and patient safety guidelines.
- Maintain current knowledge of dermatology treatments, procedures, and best practices.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- Graduate of an accredited Practical Nursing program.
- Current LPN license in the state of practice.
- Must meet all State Board of Nursing requirements.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association or completion within 30 days of hire.
- New graduate and experienced LPNs are encouraged to apply.
- Previous clinical, ambulatory, or physician office experience is helpful but not required.
- Prior dermatology, medical office, ambulatory care, or specialty clinic experience.
- IV Certification within one year of hire, if applicable.
- Experience assisting with outpatient procedures and patient education.
- Strong organization and time-management skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced clinic environment.
- Knowledge of nursing principles, patient education, and medication administration.
