Business Finance Partner
The Finance Controller will partner closely with Aptiv’s Engineering Directors, Program Managers, to drive financial control and visibility for R&D spend across multiple product lines (Active Safety, Signal & Power, Infotainment, ADAS, etc.). The role manages budgeting, forecasting, engineering headcount, NRE costs, prototype spend, bundle cost control, D&D NRE capitalization, and program-level financial governance.
Job Responsibilities and Duties:
1. Engineering Budgeting & Forecasting - Financial Planning & Analysis
· Build annual engineering budgets (AOP), quarterly forecasts, and monthly outlooks.
· Control & Analyze OPEX, headcount, capital spend; variances vs. plan & key cost drivers.
· Provide detailed cost variance analysis, headcount tracking, and resource utilization insights.
· Evaluate ROI and payback on capital and technology investments.
· Prepare and present monthly business reviews and variance analysis to leadership.
2. Program Finance & NRE
· Own NRE financials for programs including: Hours tracking , Prototype BOM Test costs Tooling etc
· Validate Engineering estimates used in F1/RFQ pricing.
· Ensure all costs align with Aptiv program lifecycle gates.
3. Capitalization & D&D Accounting
· Assess which R&D costs qualify for capitalization under Aptiv R&D capitalization policy.
· Monthly capitalization entries, amortization schedules, and impairment checks.
4. Variance Analysis & Month-End Close
· Prepare monthly engineering cost variance reports vs Budget/Forecast.
· Accruals for engineering hours, lab expenses, prototypes, external vendors.
· Work with Project Management (CC tracking) to ensure correct cost booking.
5. Business Finance Partnering with Engineering
· Work with Engineering Directors, PMO, Product Managers.
· Provide financial insights on cost-to-complete, EAC, engineering change costs.
· Challenge assumptions, ensure engineering discipline on cost control.
6. Financial Modeling & Decision Support
· Build models for new engineering programs ( ADAS, vehicle connectivity).
· Support make-vs-buy, insource-vs-offshore, and contractor optimization.
· Support bundle quote process with finance validations.
· Monitor project cost allocations, ensuring compliance with internal policies and external audit requirements.
Key Competencies:
· MBA Finance, CA,ICWA, CMA or Any PG in Finance
· 9+ years of experience in Engineering Finance, R&D FP&A, Program Finance, Automotive/Tech/Manufacturing
· Strong Excel, SAP, Hyperion/Anaplan
· Experience with product development lifecycle (Concept → DV → PV → SOP)
· Strong understanding of NRE, prototypes, toolings, SW/HW hours, D&D capitalization
· Ability to partner with engineering and PMO cross-functional teams
Technical Skills:
- Advanced Excel & financial modeling
- ERP and Forecasting tool experience
- Experience with BI tools (Power BI / Tableau) would be added advantage.
