About this opportunity:

Cenovus is seeking a Specialist, Projects Design Quality to join our team. This role is responsible for ensuring the delivery of high-quality engineering solutions that enhance Downstream project competitiveness, support predictable execution, and resolve critical project needs. The role provides oversight of project discipline engineering and external service providers, while driving the implementation of the project engineering management system and contracting strategies to enable successful construction, commissioning, and asset life-cycle performance. The role engages project teams and service providers across the US Downstream assets.


The successful candidate must be located in, or willing to relocate to, one of our locations in Dublin, OH; Toledo, OH; Lima, OH; or Houston, TX, and be willing to travel up to 20% across our sites.


What you’ll do:

Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:

  • Develop and maintain the Project Engineering Management System, including engineering processes, standards, and governance practices.
  • Provide oversight of project discipline engineering resources and external engineering service providers to ensure effective resource utilization, performance, quality, and compliance with project requirements.
  • Ensure engineering activities and deliverables comply with applicable standards, regulations, project requirements, and approvals while promoting fit-for-purpose, cost-effective solutions.
  • Collaborate with Project and Technical Leaders to support engineering resource planning, performance management, and successful project execution.
  • Partner with Supply Chain Management and Project Leadership to develop and improve engineering contracting strategies and service agreements.
  • Conduct engineering assurance audits and oversee the resolution of engineering-related non-conformances and corrective actions.
  • Monitor engineering performance metrics and provide technical guidance, risk assessments, and recommendations to support continuous improvement and project success.

Who you are:

  • Legally authorized to work in the US.
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering.
  • 12+ years of relevant experience in refinery or similar oil/petrochemical industry, including project engineering, management and/or relevant technical roles. 
  • Experience successfully supporting or executing a diverse range of assignments, activities, and/or projects.
  • Experience managing engineering activities and supervising or influencing internal and contracted engineering resources, with a focus on compliance with internal and external standards and requirements, while leveraging technical expertise and collaborating with diverse team members to drive quality, competitive engineered deliverables and improve performance.
