Position Overview:
The Specialist, Inbound Transportation is responsible for the end-to-end coordination and optimization of inbound transportation activities. This role ensures timely, cost-effective, and compliant movement of goods while fostering collaboration with internal teams and external partners including freight forwarders, carriers, suppliers, vendors and customs brokers. The Specialist contributes to operational efficiency, transit performance, and continuous improvement in a dynamic supply chain environment.
What You'll Do:
- Plan, arrange, and manage global transportation movements (Air, Ocean, Ground, and Intermodal) from origin to destination, ensuring compliance with trade regulations and internal SOPs.
- Monitor shipment milestones and proactively resolve delays or discrepancies.
- Liaise with freight forwarders, and/or carriers, customs brokers, suppliers, vendors and warehouse teams to ensure seamless logistics execution.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Buyers, Capacity Planning, Trade Compliance, Sourcing, Sales, Marketing, Warehousing/3PL, and Order Management to ensure alignment on transportation needs and issue resolution.
- Ensure that suppliers are compliant to the requirements stipulated in Supplier Manual, shipping documentation is accurate and compliant with international trade regulations.
- Analyze carrier rate cards, quotations, and routing options, while performing cost-benefit assessments to recommend the most efficient mode and route to meet business needs and timelines.
- Maintain and update dashboards and reports to provide visibility to leadership and cross-functional team members.
- Identify trends and variances in transportation performance and recommend corrective actions.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives focused on cost reduction, service enhancement, customer satisfaction, and process optimization, such as, optimizing transit times, consolidations, and routing strategies while enhancing operational efficiency.
- Support the development and refinement of SOPs and supplier manuals.
- Bring forward innovative ideas to improve logistics efficiency and customer satisfaction.
- Communicate clearly and professionally with external partners to resolve operational challenges.
- Provide timely updates on urgent shipments and potential disruptions.
- Act as a key point of contact for internal departments (e.g., Buyer, Planning, Sales, Production, Warehousing) regarding shipment status and logistics issues.
Let's Talk About You:
2-4 years of experience in Supply Chain, Transportation, and/or Logistics, preferably in a global, multi-modal environment.
Post-secondary degree or diploma in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, International Business, or a related field.
Supply Chain or Logistics certifications (e.g., CITT, APICS/CSCP, CIFFA, Lean Six Sigma) are considered an asset.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; able to interpret data and drive decisions.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Entrepreneurial mindset with ability to take initiative and ownership.
Working knowledge of global import/export regulations and Incoterms.
Proficiency in ERP systems and Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
Detail-oriented, organized, and able to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
Collaborative and adaptable, and able to work well in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
