Job Summary
The Specialist I is responsible for accurately registering patients and obtaining all necessary demographic, insurance, and financial information to support patient care and reimbursement activities. This position serves as a primary point of contact for patients and families while ensuring compliance with organizational policies and patient identification standards.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Interview patients in a courteous, professional, and efficient manner to obtain complete and accurate demographic, insurance, and financial information.
- Assess each patient’s ability to complete the registration process and notify clinical staff when immediate medical attention is required.
- Verify patient identification and demographic information using established procedures.
- Utilize payor systems to obtain insurance eligibility and authorization information.
- Identify patients with non-participating insurance plans and coordinate resolution with appropriate staff and physicians.
- Prepare required forms, documentation, labels, and identification bands.
- Maintain current knowledge of government and third-party payor requirements and registration processes.
- Maintain confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and organizational policies.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- One (1) year experience in customer service or healthcare registration.
- Demonstrated verbal communication skills.
- Strong guest services and customer relations skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous healthcare registration experience.
- Experience with insurance verification systems.
