Job Summary

The Specialist I is responsible for accurately registering patients and obtaining all necessary demographic, insurance, and financial information to support patient care and reimbursement activities. This position serves as a primary point of contact for patients and families while ensuring compliance with organizational policies and patient identification standards.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Interview patients in a courteous, professional, and efficient manner to obtain complete and accurate demographic, insurance, and financial information.
  • Assess each patient’s ability to complete the registration process and notify clinical staff when immediate medical attention is required.
  • Verify patient identification and demographic information using established procedures.
  • Utilize payor systems to obtain insurance eligibility and authorization information.
  • Identify patients with non-participating insurance plans and coordinate resolution with appropriate staff and physicians.
  • Prepare required forms, documentation, labels, and identification bands.
  • Maintain current knowledge of government and third-party payor requirements and registration processes.
  • Maintain confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and organizational policies.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • One (1) year experience in customer service or healthcare registration.
  • Demonstrated verbal communication skills.
  • Strong guest services and customer relations skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous healthcare registration experience.
  • Experience with insurance verification systems.
