Ensures the company complies with all current environmental, health and safety regulations and policies and that all employees are aware of those requirements and are prepared to follow all applicable policies and procedures.  

Responsibilities
  • Apply all health and safety codes, regulations, laws and policies pertaining to the health and safety of the interior and exterior of the facility

  • Assess risks and identify hazards in the workplace to create a safe and healthy environment

  • Organize, identify and help management complete permits pertaining to environmental health and safety, such as air emission(s) permits, fire safety permits, and operating permits

  • Train employees or teams on a regular basis on all areas of health and safety

  • Ensure that proper maintenance is being performed of equipment, machinery and the overall facility, such as fire alarms and sprinklers, HVAC systems, and parking areas

  • Undergo regular inspections and audits to determine any opportunities for improvement, including, but not limited to, inspection of emergency generators, conduct fire drills, and test elevator systems

  • Able to wear and teach other to wear personal protective equipment as well as knowledge as to each piece's usefulness and life-cycle

  • Inspect and inventory personal protective equipment          

  • Evaluates the company’s procedures, facilities, and equipment by conducting inspections to identify unsafe conditions and to implement safeguards and solutions.

  • Collects data on safety and accident events.

  • Assist cross functional team in incident investigation(s), root cause analysis, as well as in developing and implementing containment and corrective actions identified.

  • Assist the Environmental Sustainability Specialist in ensuring compliance with all applicable environmental laws, regulation(s) and policies.

  • Assist is data collection, monitoring, and preparation of reports for delivery of pertinent information both up and down the organization.

  • Assist in the development and delivery of applicable training topics as related to environmental, health, and safety.

  • As EHS Specialist you are expected to stay abreast of any changes in laws, regulation(s), or policies that have or could have a direct effect on the company and or employees.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Works collaboratively with other departments.

  • Strong Microsoft Office programs skills.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Strong reasoning and problem-solving abilities, with the ability to make good judgments and render good decisions based on evaluation of provided information.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Ability to travel as needed.

  • Ability to concentrate on tasks, make decisions and work calmly and effectively in a high-pressure, deadline-oriented environment.

  • Willingness to be flexible with time and adjust to a changing work environment.

  • Ability to build and maintain positive relationships, both internally and externally, while maintaining a client service orientation.

  • Ability to use discretion in dealing with highly confidential information.

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health, Safety, or related field of study required.

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience.

Travel
  • Local Travel: Less than 10%

Working Conditions
  • Office Environment - Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time and occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.  Required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading. May be required to exert up to 25 pounds of force occasionally to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.

  • Factory - The worker may be subject to hazards. Includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, vibration, moving vehicles, electrical current, exposure to temperature changes or exposure to chemicals.   While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to fumes, airborne particles, odors, dust, mists, and gases. The noise level in the work environment can be loud. Required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading; visual inspection involving small defects, small parts, and/or operation of machines (including inspection); using measurement devices; and/or assembly or fabrication parts at distances close to the eyes. Machinery operation requires the use of safety equipment to include but not limited to eye safety glasses, hearing protectors, work boots, and lab coats. May be required to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
