SOTWARE ENGINEERING MANAGER

We are seeking a highly capable and technically strong Software Engineering Manager to lead and coordinate our software development teams. This individual will serve as the direct line manager to Team Leads and engineers, and act as the technical and delivery bridge between the development teams and the CTO.

The ideal candidate must have a proven track record of managing engineering teams, shaping system architecture, and delivering high-quality applications in fast-paced environments. Candidates must also have contributed significantly to notable, production-level applications.

This is a strategic, hands-on role based fully onsite in Abuja, requiring close collaboration with internal stakeholders to translate business needs into scalable engineering outcomes.

• Lead, mentor, and manage technical team leads and engineers.
  
• Conduct performance reviews, skills development, and hiring processes in alignment with company goals.
  
•  Oversee technical project execution, ensuring timelines, quality standards, and KPIs are met.
  

• Work with product managers and stakeholders to define sprint plans, roadmaps, and releases.
  

•  Guide architectural decisions and ensure best practices across backend, frontend, and API layers. Ensure consistency in software design, scalability, security, and maintainability.
  
•  Facilitate collaboration across engineering, product, QA, and DevOps teams.
  
• Report regularly to the CTO on team progress, risks, dependencies, and resource needs.
  
•  Implement and refine engineering processes (Agile, CI/CD, code reviews, documentation). Champion automation, testing, and observability initiatives.
  

• Proven Track Record
  Demonstrable experience in building and launching impactful software applications. Portfolio or case studies of previous projects is strongly preferred.
  

•  Frontend Expertise
  Deep proficiency in React, TypeScript, Redux (or Context API), and associated build tools such as Webpack and Babel.

• Backend Mastery
  Extensive experience with Python frameworks such as Django or Flask. Proficient in ORM design, API versioning, and service orchestration.

• API & Data Handling
  Strong understanding of RESTful API design principles; experience with GraphQL is a plus. Skilled in both SQL (e.g.,PostgreSQL) and NoSQL (e.g., MongoDB) data modeling.

• Cloud & DevOps
  Practical experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP), containerization using Docker, and orchestration using Kubernetes. Familiarity with Infrastructure-as-Code (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation).

• Engineering Practices
  Mastery of Git, CI/CD tools (GitHub Actions, Jenkins, or similar), Agile/Scrum workflows, and test automation frameworks.

• Soft Skills
  Exceptional communication skills with the ability to clearly articulate technical decisions. Experience in mentoring and leading cross-functional engineering efforts.

•  - Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
  - 6+ years of professional experience in software engineering, with at least 2 years in a leadership or managerial role.
  - Proven experience leading development teams and delivering scalable applications in Django, Flask, or similar frameworks.
  - Strong understanding of API design (REST/GraphQL), SQL/NoSQL databases, and system design principles.
  - Experience managing agile teams, sprint cycles, and cross-functional delivery.
