The Role

We're looking for a seasoned Solutions Engineer to sit at the heart of our engineering team, working hand in hand with the Tech Lead and reporting directly to the Head of Technology.

This is not a junior execution role. It's a position for someone who takes ownership of technical delivery end to end — from receiving a well-defined scope to making the architectural decisions that determine what gets shipped and how.

The ideal candidate is someone who:

• Has deep, hands-on experience with Laravel and WordPress at scale
• Knows how to navigate legacy systems and high-pressure incidents without losing composure
• Takes documentation and code quality as seriously as the work itself
• Thrives in a multi-project agency environment where priorities shift and standards don't

Key Responsibilities

Engineering & Delivery

• Lead the technical direction on Laravel and WordPress projects from scoping through to delivery
• Maintain and improve legacy web systems, identifying risks and opportunities for improvement
• Produce clean, well-documented and maintainable code across all projects

Collaboration & Standards

• Work closely with the Business Analyst to receive project scopes and translate requirements into well-structured technical solutions
• Collaborate with the Tech Lead to define and uphold company-wide development standards and best practices
• Participate in code reviews and contribute to raising the overall quality of the team's output

Planning & Process

• Collaborate with Project Managers to plan, estimate and deliver projects of varying complexity
• Manage multiple projects simultaneously, adapting priorities as business needs evolve
• Maintain thorough documentation throughout the project lifecycle, covering technical decisions, architecture and processes

What We're Looking For

Experience

• Extensive, demonstrable experience in PHP development with a track record of delivering complex projects
• Deep hands-on experience with Laravel and WordPress, including custom theme and plugin development
• A solid history of handling incidents on critical systems — you've been in high-pressure situations, you know how to diagnose, recover and follow through
• A background in a multi-project agency or similarly fast-paced environment where juggling priorities is the norm

Skills

• Strong proficiency in core frontend technologies: HTML, CSS, SASS, JavaScript and jQuery
• Comfortable working with SSH-based tools and remote server environments
• Experience with containerisation tools such as Docker
• Proven experience with relational databases, particularly MySQL, including query optimisation and schema design
• A strong appreciation for documentation — you write it, you maintain it, and you understand its value
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a cross-functional team
• The kind of problem-solving instinct and technical confidence that comes with having handled real-world complexity at scale

Nice to Have

• Familiarity with Core Web Vitals and web performance optimisation
• Experience with modern frontend frameworks such as React, Vue or Next.js
• Knowledge of DevOps practices and cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure, including deployment pipelines and environment configuration
• Experience with CI/CD workflows and version control best practices using Git
