Solutions Engineer
About Weaver
Since 2006, Weaver has helped organizations build IT strategy and security so they can focus on their craft. We serve Education (K-12 and Higher Education), State and Local Government, Healthcare, and Commercial customers across the U.S. and internationally.
We do IT a different way. Our approach is simple: Right IT Solution. Right Time. Right Reason.
- Right IT Solution. We recommend what the customer needs, and we never push products they don't.
- Right Time. We are patient and deliberate. No pressure tactics.
- Right Reason. Integrity comes first in every recommendation.
Position overview
The Solutions Engineer is the technical backbone behind our Account Executives. You will turn customer conversations into accurate configurations, quotes, and Scopes of Work so that every proposal we send is the right fit for the customer, with nothing they don't need. You will work on many opportunities at once, mostly remotely, and partner with our Solutions Architects on larger, field-led deals.
What you will do
Solution design and quoting
- Join discovery calls with Account Executives to clarify requirements, current environment, and constraints.
- Build accurate configurations and bills of materials in vendor configuration and quoting tools (Dell Technologies and other partners).
- Prepare and maintain quotes with the sales team, including support, licensing, and services line items.
- Right-size every recommendation. If a smaller or different solution fits better, say so.
Proposals and scoping
- Write Scopes of Work and level-of-effort estimates in partnership with our Services team.
- Develop the technical content of proposals, presentation decks, and RFP/RFI responses, including public-sector requirements.
- Peer-review configurations and Scopes of Work from teammates for accuracy and completeness.
Collaboration and enablement
- Partner with Solutions Architects on complex and large-scale opportunities.
- Keep opportunity status current in our shared tools (Monday, NetSuite, Teams).
- Hand off sold work cleanly to Services so delivery starts with a clear plan.
- Share product knowledge with Account Executives through short enablement sessions.
- Stay current on partner roadmaps through vendor training and relationships.
Technology areas
Server, storage, data protection and backup, virtualization (VMware and Microsoft Hyper-V), networking (wired and wireless), Microsoft 365 and cloud, and security. You are not expected to be an expert in all of them on day one, but you should be strong in at least two.
What you bring
- 3–5 years in pre-sales engineering, inside technical sales, systems engineering, or technical consulting in the IT industry.
- Hands-on experience building configurations in at least two of the technology areas above.
- Working knowledge of the IT channel model: OEMs, distributors, deal registration, and vendor quoting tools.
- Clear written communication. You can write a Scope of Work a customer and an engineer will both understand.
- Comfort on customer calls explaining technical options in plain language.
- Strong organization. You can manage several active opportunities and deadlines at once.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
Nice to have
- Dell Technologies, Microsoft, VMware, or Ruckus certifications.
- Experience supporting K-12, Higher Education, State and Local Government, or Healthcare customers.
What success looks like
- First 90 days: Consistent, timely turnaround on configurations, quotes, and Scopes of Work.
- First 6 months: Account Executives trust your builds to go to the customer with minimal rework.
- First year: You own inside opportunities end to end and help raise the quality bar for the team.
