As a Solutions Engineer II, you will be a trusted technical advisor to customers and strategic partner to sales. You'll combine technical aptitude, business curiosity, and communication skills to understand priorities, architect solutions, demonstrate value, and influence decisions. We value hands-on builders who experiment, prototype, integrate, and learn - using technology to make ideas tangible and solve problems when the answer is not yet obvious.

As a Solutions Engineer II, you will be responsible for:

• Leading technical discovery to understand customer initiatives, business challenges, architectures, and desired outcomes.
• Partnering with sales teams to develop technical strategies that create opportunities, strengthen relationships, and drive account growth.
• Translating business and technical requirements into secure, scalable, high-performance architectures using capabilities across the Akamai platform.
• Communicating complex technical concepts clearly to engineers, architects, business leaders, and executive stakeholders.
• Leading demonstrations, workshops, solution validations, and Proofs of Concept that help customers evaluate and adopt Akamai solutions.
• Using modern tools, APIs, automation, AI-assisted technologies, and rapid prototyping to make ideas tangible and demonstrate value.
• Exploring emerging technologies, including AI, agents, APIs, and cloud-native architectures, to solve customer challenges and create measurable value.
• Collaborating across Sales, Services, Product Management, and Engineering while contributing reusable ideas, demonstrations, and technical approaches.

Do what you love

To be successful in this role you will:

• Have 5yrs experience and a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, MIS, Engineering, Information Technology, or another related technical field.
• Bring professional experience in customer-facing technology, solutions architecture, engineering, technical consulting, implementation, pre-sales, or a related discipline.
• Possess solid Internet and cloud fundamentals, including DNS, HTTP(S), APIs, networking, and modern application architectures.
• Communicate complex technical concepts clearly through excellent written, verbal, presentation, and customer-facing skills.
• Connect technical solutions to customer priorities, business outcomes, and value through curiosity, discovery, and commercial awareness.
• Learn unfamiliar technologies quickly, experiment with new approaches, and operate assuredly when the solution is not yet obvious.
• Understand modern AI concepts; experience may include LLMs, agents, MCP, RAG, AI gateways, prompt engineering, or AI-assisted development.
• Enjoy getting hands-on with APIs, automation, cloud platforms, observability, infrastructure-as-code, or prototyping to assemble and validate solutions. Similar

Compensation

Akamai is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. For US based candidates only - the base salary for this position ranges from $100,700 - $181,300/year; a candidate’s salary is determined by various factors including, but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and location. Compensation for candidates outside the US will vary. The compensation package may also include incentive compensation opportunities in the form of annual bonus or incentives, equity awards and an Employee Stock Purchase Plan (ESPP).
