Job: Solutions Design Engineer
Salary: $80,000-95,000, depending on experience
Summary
Owns and executes transportation solution design and pricing analysis for new and existing customers with limited supervision. Applies working knowledge of cost modeling, network design, and data analysis to deliver competitive, well-structured proposals for lower-to-mid complexity opportunities. Expected to operate independently on defined workstreams and contribute meaningfully to cross-functional efforts.
What does a normal day look like?
- Own end-to-end solution design for lower-to-mid complexity RFPs and customer opportunities with minimal supervision
- Validate, cleanse, and structure customer-provided data including RFPs, lane data, volumes, and rate tables
- Build and maintain cost models covering labor, fleet, routing assumptions, and overhead components
- Develop pricing model inputs and support senior engineers in scenario analysis and proposal review
- Present solutions and findings at internal review meetings; communicate model logic clearly to cross-functional partners
- Coordinate with Operations, Finance, and Sales to validate solution feasibility prior to submission
- Identify data gaps, model risks, and pricing assumptions that require escalation to senior team members
- Support win/loss analysis and contribute observations that improve future model accuracy
- Contribute to the development and upkeep of internal templates, tools, and solution documentation
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and incorporate feedback into future work
What makes you right for the job?
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Engineering, Business, Analytics, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- 2+ years of experience in logistics, supply chain, transportation engineering, or a closely related function preferred
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including advanced modeling, formulas, and scenario analysis (required)
- Experience with Power BI, Tableau, or similar data visualization tools and reporting tools
- Working knowledge of at least one programming/scripting language (Python, SQL, or R preferred)
- Familiarity with network modeling and optimization software (e.g., Direct Route, Blue Yonder, Manhattan, or comparable)
- Experience with or exposure to transportation management systems (TMS)
- Solid understanding of transportation cost structures, lane economics, and basic pricing mechanics
- Ability to manage multiple concurrent workstreams and deliver on deadlines without constant oversight
- Effective written and verbal communication skills; comfortable presenting findings internally

Skills Required
