Role Overview
This role focuses on designing and leading the implementation of technical architecture for a large-scale public safety telecommunications network in Ontario. The project involves modernizing a complex radio communication system used by emergency responders, ensuring reliability, scalability, and interoperability across multiple platforms and environments.
The Technology Architect will collaborate with cross-functional teams, vendors, and stakeholders to guide architecture decisions, oversee system integration, and ensure alignment with enterprise and public sector standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, recommend, implement, and manage end-to-end technical architecture (hardware, software, databases, communications)
- Translate business requirements into technical solutions and reporting frameworks
- Lead system design, integration, and modernization efforts in large distributed environments
- Provide expertise in enterprise architecture frameworks, methodologies, and standards
- Collaborate with stakeholders, vendors, and project teams to ensure successful delivery
- Design and implement processes aligned with ITIL best practices
- Support network planning, transition, and deployment activities
- Conduct system analysis, performance evaluation, and design optimization
- Create conceptual, logical, and physical data/process models
- Guide teams on emerging technologies and architectural best practices
Qualifications
Must-Have Experience
- Minimum 8+ years of experience with P25 radio technology design and/or support
- Minimum 5+ years in a supervisory role managing P25 radio networks
- Hands-on experience with encryption technologies (e.g., KMF, KVL, related tools)
- Experience with network monitoring and provisioning tools (e.g., ZoneWatch, UEM or equivalent)
- Strong expertise in IP networks, telephony, and satellite systems
- Proven experience in IT infrastructure modernization projects
- Experience in system analysis, design, and enterprise architecture development
- Project management experience with large-scale implementations
- Ability to produce technical reports, recommendations, and proposals
Technical Knowledge
- Middleware, gateways, and communications protocols
- Multiple platforms, operating systems, and database technologies
- CASE tools and project management tools
- Enterprise Content Management and Information Management principles
- ITIL-based service management frameworks
Soft Skills
