ReconCraft is seeking a SolidWorks Mechanical Designer to join our growing team in Clackamas, OR. This position plays a key role in the design and development of manned and unmanned boats, leveraging advanced 3D modeling and drafting tools to support our engineering and production teams. The Mechanical Designer will be responsible for developing system layouts, foundation designs, routings, bills of materials, production detailing, CNC cut plate files, fixture designs, and more. The ideal candidate will bring proven expertise in SolidWorks, SolidWorks PDM, and AutoCAD, along with experience supporting manufacturing and production environments.
Responsibilities (including but are not limited to):
- Utilize SolidWorks, SolidWorks PDM, and AutoCAD to create 3D models, assemblies, and detailed production drawings.
- Collaborate with engineering, production, and fabrication teams to optimize designs for manufacturability, efficiency, and quality.
- Partner with suppliers and external stakeholders to integrate third-party components into design models.
- Revise and update existing designs by implementing redline changes and generating revised drawings and solid models.
- Translate rough concepts and input from end users, maintainers, and fabricators into draft designs and prototypes.
- Develop jig and fixture designs, including fabrication drawings, machining documentation, and bills of materials.
- Apply industry design standards, best practices, and technical references to create reliable boat and system designs.
- Contribute to a collaborative, high-performance team dedicated to advancing marine technology and production innovation.
- Perform other duties as directed by the Engineering Manager.
Essential Job Qualifications and Requirements:
- Experience:
- Minimum 3 years of experience in manufacturing design and production using 3D and 2D CAD programs.
- Hands-on knowledge of marine or transportation mechanical systems preferred.
- Practical experience with fabrication methods such as welding, CNC cutting and forming, and other modern manufacturing processes.
- Solid product development experience using SolidWorks to support in-house manufacturing.
- Preferred Knowledge & Experience
- Advanced proficiency with SolidWorks, SolidWorks PDM, and AutoCAD.
- Share expertise, mentor team members, and contribute to team-wide best practices.
- Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
- Flexibility to work extended hours when required to meet project deadlines or deliverables.
