Position: Software Test Engineer

Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Software Test Engineer to support quality assurance activities across complex enterprise application environments. The successful candidate will be responsible for planning, executing, and managing testing efforts throughout the software development lifecycle, ensuring solutions meet functional, technical, performance, accessibility, and business requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Collaborate with product managers, product owners, and technical teams to develop test strategies and test plans.
  
• Develop manual test scripts, test cases, and test scenarios.
  
• Assist with planning and creating test data for various testing phases.
  
• Execute quality assurance and testing activities including:
  
• Integration Testing
  
• Functional Testing
  
• Regression Testing
  
• Unit Testing
  
• Load Testing
  
• Performance Testing
  
• Accessibility Testing
  
• Plan and organize testing efforts across front-end and back-end application environments.
  
• Communicate test results through reports that summarize test completion status and identified defects.
  
• Support implementation of technical testing strategies and methodologies, including:
  
• Integration points and interfaces testing
  
• Fail-over testing
  
• Response-time validation
  
• Data integrity testing
  
• Security testing
  
• Evaluate test results against acceptance criteria.
  
• Define and measure acceptance criteria for test cases.
  
• Record and manage defects with detailed documentation, screenshots, and reproduction steps.
  
• Participate in requirements workshops, sprint reviews, and solution walkthroughs.
  
• Work closely with cross-functional teams throughout Agile development cycles.
  
• Conduct post-release and post-implementation validation testing.
  

Qualifications & Experience

General Skills

• Experience planning, organizing, and implementing testing initiatives.
  
• Knowledge of structured software development methodologies.
  
• Experience using CASE tools and data query tools to support testing activities.
  
• Knowledge of automated testing tools and version control systems.
  
• Experience executing functional, non-functional, and system integration testing.
  
• Experience supporting User Acceptance Testing (UAT).
  
• Strong understanding of QA principles, practices, tools, and methodologies.
  
• Experience creating test strategies, test plans, test cases, and test data.
  
• Experience across multiple testing phases including unit, integration, load, and performance testing.
  
• Knowledge of all phases of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).
  
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  
• Ability to work effectively within a collaborative team environment.
  
• Knowledge of automated testing tools.
  

Mandatory Skills

• Experience with at least one programming language.
  
• Experience using information retrieval packages.
  
• Knowledge of testing methodologies within object-oriented environments.
  
• Understanding of Information Management principles, concepts, policies, and practices.
  
• Knowledge of Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) standards and regulations.
  
• Experience planning and organizing testing efforts for large and small systems.
  
• Experience developing and executing automated test scripts.
  
• Experience testing Commercial Off-The-Shelf (COTS) applications.
  

QA & Testing Experience

• Experience supporting large, complex web-based application development projects.
  
• Experience working within Agile distributed development teams using virtual collaboration tools.
  
• Experience working within enterprise cloud environments such as Azure.
  
• Strong SQL/PLSQL experience for data analysis, verification, and extraction.
  
• Experience developing:
  
• ETL testing plans
  
• Functional scenarios
  
• Integration workflows
  
• Web-based UI testing
  
• Regression testing
  
• Smoke testing
  
• Performance testing
  
• Load and stress testing plans
  
• Experience developing AODA compliance testing plans.
  
• Experience with test automation tools and DevOps testing lifecycle practices.
  
• Experience using Azure DevOps (or equivalent) for testing workflows and approvals.
  

Business Analysis Experience

• Business and systems analysis experience within cloud environments.
  
• Experience gathering requirements and developing user stories.
  
• Experience creating Agile project artifacts using DevOps tools.
  
• Understanding of data modeling, data analysis, and reporting.
  
• Experience producing business analysis deliverables supporting modernization initiatives and workflow improvements.
  
• Experience performing gap analysis to support solution modernization and business efficiencies.
  
• Experience working within Agile methodologies.
  

Technical Experience

• Experience developing complex test cases and managing defect lifecycles.
  
• Advanced SQL/PLSQL experience for data extraction and analysis.
  
• Hands-on experience with AODA testing tools such as JAWS and NVDA.
  
• Familiarity with vulnerability testing and performance/load testing tools.
  
• Experience creating and executing testing scripts within Azure DevOps or similar platforms.
  
• Experience developing and maintaining automated test scripts using Katalon Studio or equivalent tools.
  
• Experience with Java-based UI and backend testing.
  

Defect Management Experience

• Experience managing defects and reporting defect status through defect management platforms.
  
• Experience identifying, isolating, reproducing, and analyzing software issues.
  
• Strong root cause analysis and troubleshooting capabilities.
  
• Experience documenting, tracking, escalating, and resolving issues.
  
• Experience working within Agile Scrum environments.
  
• Experience managing sprint-based testing and defect tracking activities.
