Description
Hybrid : This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to the Arizona IT Center in Chandler, AZ or the Warren Tech Center in Warren, MI three times per week, at minimum. This position can be located at either of these two locations.
The Role
The Software Test Engineer will be responsible for participating in the integration and test of GM Connectivity, Telematics, Infotainment and other Wireless products. This position will work closely with requirements and development teams to understand functional and interface specifications to create written test cases. This requires the creation of automated test scripts to automate appropriate test cases.
This position will also work with software development teams on integration and triage of issues as well as coordinating test activities with external validation organizations. This position requires strong working knowledge of cellular simulator and cellular standards. This will require being comfortable with configuring hardware, flashing software, and using automotive bus analyzers to read/write messages on the vehicle network.
What You'll Do

  • Software requirements and design analysis for test purposes
  • Creating test plans and ensuring traceability to requirements
  • Telematics bench setup and proper software configuration
  • Input of test cases and test results into formal test case database
  • Work closely with requirement, development, and test teams
  • Configure cellular simulator to perform wireless testing
  • Triage issues that are dependent on interpretation of cell simulator logs
  • Subject matter expert with cellular technology and cellular testing
  • Creation and execution of automated test scripts
  • Interpret test case results and work with development to record and identify defects
  • Ad hoc triage of system issues
  • Gather and interpret information from all component interfaces
  • Create test scenarios to identify resource dependencies or conflicts
  • Work with software development teams to perform manual unit testing and resolved defect regression testing


Additional Description
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

  • BS degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or related degree
  • 3+ years in applicable software integration and test experience
  • System test experience: including test generation, test script creation, automated and manual test execution, and logging of test results
  • Experience with programming an Anritsu cell simulator and configuring for execution of wireless testing
  • Understanding of 4G and 5G cellular networking
  • Understanding of 3GPP specifications (especially with RAN1 and RAN2, for 3GPP NR) along with IEEE 802.11 specifications
  • Experience updating software/firmware on embedded hardware component
  • Familiarity with vehicle bus tools, preferably VehicleSpy or Vector tools
  • Highly adaptable and able to work independently and in a team environment
  • Basic understanding of Linux-based systems
  • Strong problem solving, communication and analytical skills
  • Use of full software life cycle tools such as Rational DNG, Jira, GIT/GitHub, Gerrit, Artifactory, and an IDE
  • Good working knowledge of Agile software development process


What Will Give You A Competitive Edge

  • Experience with testing Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and/or V2X
  • Programming experience using Python, JavaScript, Perl, or shell script
  • Understanding of Modulation and coding techniques; Advanced waveform designs; PHY and MAC layer design
  • Experience in Phy L1 layers and L2 MAC layer will be added advantage for understanding 3GPP lower power mode operation
  • Understanding of higher layer protocols like TCP/IP, MQTT, SOME/IP, SMS
  • Experience with automotive infotainment systems including infotainment validation and hardware configuration
