We are seeking an experienced Software Test Engineer who will support the Software Product Design team’s goal to define, guide, and verify seamless end-user experiences. This SW Test Engineer will help design and test a complete sequencing solution with the necessary software interfaces to the chemistry, hardware, manufacturing and downstream analysis systems. You will be responsible for working with stakeholders across the organization to provide the best solutions possible. This role will report to our Associate Director, Software Test Engineering and will be a San Diego based role.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Work as part of a team to design, implement, integrate and test the software that enables the development and use of Element’s sequencing instrumentation
  • Work with the software systems engineers and stakeholders to test hardware, biochemistry, instrument, cloud, and analysis interfaces and specifications
  • Manage software and firmware configurations across a suite of instrumentation, software, and hardware offerings
  • Assist in troubleshooting problems during development and product sustaining
  • Perform manual test cases, serving to test and confirm software and systems integration, as well as validating user needs and touchpoints
  • Own and develop the software test plan, test cases, protocols, and reports
  • Support automation of test cases as software and interfaces mature

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Programming, Computer Science, Bioengineering or related field
  • 1-4 years in the Life Science Industry with knowledge of DNA sequencing and cell biology, preferred
  • Experience working software device and cloud SaaS development teams
  • Experience debugging software and embedded system interfaces
  • Ability to work in the office/lab as a hands-on FTE
  • Experience with Linux, Python, SQL/NoSQL and interest in working with FPGA, and Embedded Systems
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Be able to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • Experience in participating in cross-organizational or inter-company collaboration
  • Experience with manual and automated software testing
  • Experience with automating test cases

Physical Requirements:

  • Frequently moves boxes weighing up to 20 pounds.

Location:

  • San Diego

Travel: 

  • Up to 10% domestically or as needed

Job Type:

  • Full-time, Exempt


Base Compensation Pay Range:

  • $96,000 - $118,000


 

In addition to base compensation noted above, you will be eligible for stock options, discretionary annual bonus, no cost health insurance plans, 401k with company match, and flexible paid time off. 


Please note: Base compensation will depend on multiple factors, including geographic location, qualifications, and experience.
