Position Objective
The QA Lead is responsible for driving the entire quality assurance strategy and execution across all projects. This role combines hands-on testing leadership with process governance, ensuring every release meets strict reliability, usability, and performance standards. The QA Lead serves as both a technical enforcer (“hammer”) and a mentor/coach who empowers the QA team to follow best practices, adopt modern tools, and continuously improve quality processes.
Main Responsibilities
Define and Enforce QA Processes
Design, implement, and maintain scalable QA workflows that ensure consistency across projects. Own the creation and maintenance of testing frameworks for manual and automated testing. Establish entry and exit criteria, bug triage protocols, and regression testing procedures. Guarantee alignment between QA, Product, and Development to maintain predictable release cycles.
Lead and Mentor the QA Team
Provide leadership and hands-on guidance to QA analysts, testers, and automation engineers. Mentor junior QA members in testing methodologies, tools, and critical thinking. Set expectations for ownership, communication, and documentation. Act as the quality “bridge” between engineering and management, ensuring QA remains a respected, accountable partner.
Execute and Oversee Test Planning
Create, review, and approve test strategies, test plans, and test cases for both functional and non-functional testing. Ensure coverage maps to business requirements, technical specifications, and acceptance criteria. Supervise execution of smoke, regression, integration, and UAT testing.
Tools, Automation & Continuous Improvement
Champion the use of QA tools for test case management, bug tracking, and automation. Lead the integration of CI/CD pipelines with QA validation points. Stay updated on emerging QA technologies and continuously improve testing frameworks and standards.
Risk & Quality Reporting
Define and monitor quality metrics such as defect leakage rate, pass/fail ratios, and test coverage. Provide clear reporting to leadership on product readiness, potential risks, and blockers. Take ownership to ensure that critical defects are addressed before release.
Cross-Team Collaboration
Work closely with Developers, Product Managers, and DevOps to define testable requirements and deliver high-quality features. Maintain open communication across departments to ensure testing transparency. Serve as the final voice for “go/no-go” decisions during release planning.
Other Responsibilities
- Build and maintain QA documentation, standards, and best-practice guides.
- Organize periodic audits and post-release reviews to identify process gaps and implement corrective actions.
- Establish QA onboarding programs to accelerate training for new testers.
Coordinate multi-environment testing (Stage, Pre-Prod, Production validation).
Support incident post-mortems with detailed QA impact assessments.
Core Competencies
- Process Mastery & Ownership – Deep understanding of QA methodologies (Agile, Waterfall, Hybrid) and the ability to design processes that ensure coverage and traceability. Demonstrates end-to-end ownership of quality lifecycle, from requirements to post-release validation.
- Leadership & Mentorship – Proven experience in leading small QA teams. Balances assertive management (“hammer”) with supportive coaching to help testers grow while maintaining accountability.
- Tooling Expertise – Strong experience with tools such as:
- Test Case Management: TestRail, Zephyr, Xray, Qase, or similar.
- Bug Tracking: Jira, ClickUp, Asana, or equivalents.
Automation Frameworks: Cypress, Playwright, Selenium, or Detox (for mobile). - CI/CD & Monitoring: GitHub Actions, Jenkins, BrowserStack, Percy, or StatusCake.
- Analytical & Detail-Oriented Mindset – Detects edge cases early, writes clear test cases, and analyzes failures to pinpoint root causes.
- Communication & Collaboration – Translates technical testing outcomes into actionable insights for stakeholders.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field or 5+ years of working experience in Software QA.
- 2+ years of experience in dealership roles in the software development industry.
- English skills (B2 minimum required)
