Position Summary

The Software QA Engineer will be part of a team that supports an aerial surveillance system for a Department of Defense customer. The candidate will support software for an integrated application that includes external system sensors, captured video, and static imagery. The candidate will perform hands-on software and system testing while working closely with experienced QA engineers and software developers.

Duties and Responsibilities

This position will report to the Software Infrastructure Manager and will coordinate closely with the QA, Software Development, and Systems Engineering teams.

  • Execute documented software and system test procedures
  • Assist with the development and maintenance of test plans, test cases, test procedures, and test specifications
  • Perform functional, regression, integration, and system testing
  • Document test results accurately and provide status and progress information to the QA and development teams
  • Identify, document, and track software defects through resolution
  • Reproduce reported software issues and assist developers and senior QA personnel with troubleshooting
  • Verify software corrections and perform regression testing following software changes
  • Assist with setting up and maintaining software test environments
  • Ensure required test data is available prior to test execution
  • Review software requirements and verify that test cases provide appropriate requirement coverage
  • Identify unclear or incomplete requirements and communicate questions or concerns to senior team members
  • Use Jira or similar tools to create, update, and monitor defects and testing activities
  • Use Confluence or similar tools to maintain test documentation and supporting information
  • Support software build and release testing activities
  • Assist with configuration and version verification of software under test
  • Participate in Agile/Scrum activities, including sprint planning, daily stand-ups, reviews, and retrospectives
  • Work collaboratively with software developers, systems engineers, and other QA team members to resolve software and system issues
  • Assist with improving QA processes, procedures, tools, and documentation
  • Support the development and maintenance of product and test documentation
  • Follow established QA processes, configuration management practices, and applicable program or industry standards
  • Communicate potential product quality concerns to senior QA personnel, technical leads, or program leadership in a timely manner
  • Perform other software QA and system testing activities as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field or equivalent work experience 
  • 0-2 years of experience in software quality assurance, software testing, systems testing, software development, or a related technical field
  • Familiarity with Software Test Tools and Bug Tracking Software
  • Basic understanding of software testing concepts and the software development life cycle (SDLC)
  • Familiarity with software test methods such as functional, regression, integration, and system testing
  • Ability to follow test procedures and accurately document test results
  • Ability to identify, document, and clearly communicate software defects
  • Familiarity with issue-tracking or bug-tracking tools
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary engineering team
  • Ability and willingness to learn new software applications, testing tools, and technical systems
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance
  • Must be able to work physically on-site full-time, Monday-Friday

Preferred Qualifications

  • Active US DoD Secret level security clearance is preferred
  • Familiarity with Jira and Confluence or similar collaboration tools is nice to have
  • Basic understanding of software configuration management and version-control concepts is preferred

Pay Information

Full-Time Salary Range: $74,000 - $87,000

Please Note: Actual compensation offered will be determined based on several factors including, but not limited to, relevant experience, skills, education, certifications, internal equity, business considerations, and geographic location where applicable.

Skills Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field, or equivalent work experience
