Job Description
About the Role
As a QA Test Engineer based in Lisbon, you will be a key contributor within a growing Quality Engineering team responsible for validating Bose consumer products, including headphones, earbuds, Bluetooth speakers, and home theater systems.
This is a hands-on role requiring both strong manual testing expertise and increasing ownership of automation and test strategy . You will be responsible for ensuring that complex hardware-software systems perform reliably in real-world conditions, with a focus on Bluetooth connectivity, audio performance, and embedded system behavior.
You will work closely with software engineers, product managers, and cross-functional teams to drive quality throughout the development lifecycle , proactively identify risks, and ensure high-confidence releases. This role is ideal for someone who has built a solid QA foundation and is ready to take on greater technical ownership and influence over product quality .
What You'll Do
Own Feature-Level Quality
- Take ownership of end-to-end quality for features and subsystems
- Design and execute comprehensive test strategies based on risk, usage patterns, and system complexity
- Validate firmware, mobile integrations, and cross-device interactions in real-world scenarios
Advanced Manual & Exploratory Testing
- Lead exploratory testing efforts in high-risk and customer-critical areas
- Identify edge cases, failure modes, and system limitations beyond defined test cases
- Ensure robust validation across Bluetooth workflows (pairing, reconnection, multi-device, interoperability)
Debugging & Root Cause Analysis
- Analyze logs, traces, and system-level behavior to identify and isolate defects
- Perform root cause analysis and partner with developers to drive resolution
- Reproduce complex issues across embedded systems, mobile apps, and connectivity layers
Test Design & Automation Contribution
- Design, maintain, and improve structured test plans and regression suites
- Contribute to test automation frameworks (e.g., Python or similar) and increase automated coverage
- Integrate testing into CI/CD pipelines and support continuous validation practices
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with engineering, product, and DevOps teams to ensure testability and quality requirements are met early
- Actively participate in Agile/Scrum ceremonies and influence sprint-level quality decisions
- Provide clear quality assessments and release readiness recommendations
Quality Improvement & Mentorship
- Identify gaps in testing, tooling, and processes and drive improvements
- Contribute to defining quality metrics and analyzing trends
- Support and guide junior QA engineers through test reviews and knowledge sharing
What You Bring
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field (or equivalent practical experience)
- +2 years of experience in software or embedded systems testing
- Strong understanding of software testing methodologies, test design techniques, and quality engineering principles
- Hands-on experience with test automation (e.g., Python, JavaScript, or similar)
- Experience with API testing and system-level validation
- Solid debugging skills, including log analysis and issue reproduction across complex systems
- Understanding of operating systems, system architecture, and component interactions
- Experience testing Bluetooth or wireless technologies (pairing, connectivity, interoperability)
- Exposure to embedded systems and firmware validation
- Familiarity with CI/CD environments and version control systems
- Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving, and communication skills
