The Role

The Maritime Systems Division of Leidos is looking for an Engineering Manager to join our team to lead a multidisciplined team in the support of a variety of advanced communications systems and data fusion engines. This is a great opportunity for an Engineering Manager with a background in software and systems development and a passion for engineering to plan, conduct and manage engineering research, design and development projects involving hardware or software solutions in a diverse and collaborative product development and production environment.

The manager will assist in the development of mission critical software from requirements development through implementation and integration test.  The engineering manager will provide systems and software engineering guidance to  a software development team utilizing object-oriented design methodologies modeled in UML.  The primary focus of this position will be facilitating the design and implementation of real-time embedded software supporting sensor integration, data fusion and tracking over software defined radio communication networks. Tasking and responsibilities will vary depending on project objectives.

Primary Responsibilities

Support all phases of the software development lifecycle, including requirements analysis, system design, software development, integration and test, documentation, and maintenance, for complex software system/applications.

  • High level of oversight for engineering research, design, development, and sustaining projects. 

  • Responsibility for project schedule, budget, and drives cross-functional technical team to achieve technical objectives.

  • Lead team through complete lifecycle phases including requirements, concept development, design reviews, V&V and release to production using established formal development process.

  • Have knowledge of and lead a team of engineers through all phases of a project including engineering specifications, design, system test, scheduling, cost estimates including various documentation & drawings.

  • Develop test plans and procedures to perform testing and integration of hardware and software/firmware within complex electronic systems.

  • Demonstrated skills in all areas of business development including opportunity qualification, capture strategy, customer visits, customer relationship development, relationship development with competitors, team leadership, etc.

Basic Qualifications

  • Requires BS degree and 8+ years of prior relevant experience or Masters with 6 years of prior relevant experience.

  • Active Secret clearance with  ability to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI Security Clearance

  • 15+ years of systems/software engineering experience on the Navy’s Cooperative Engagement Capability

  • Broad Engineering background sufficient to analyze design data related to electrical, software, mechanical, and physical science disciplines.  Position requires working with subject matter experts to make design trade-offs with respect to cost and performance.

  • Proven experience to estimate project budget and schedule required across engineering disciplines.

  • Proven experience all phases of Software Engineering including requirements, design, code, test and integration

  • Experience with C/C++, Java, Linux

  • Real-time software development experience

  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills are required for an effective interface with all internal and external contacts. 

  • Familiarity with online tools used by the Federal Government for solicitations and proven record of success developing opportunities within the DoD community.

  • Possess business and technical vision

  • US Citizenship required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in Agile development methods, including Scrum

  • Experience with Rhapsody

  • Knowledge of or experience with UML, object-oriented design, model driven development

Pay Range:Pay Range $126,100.00 - $227,950.00

The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law.
