Software Engineering Manager

Zayo is seeking a Software Engineering Manager to be responsible for leading the development and delivery of all frontend product software including working with internal cross-functional teams and customers to define requirements, design features, and implement solutions. The ideal Software Engineering Manager will have a strong understanding of multiple frontend frameworks, restful API architecture, interacting with varied and complex sources of data, troubleshooting technical and non-technical issues in heterogeneous environments and be an empathetic leader in tune with your team. A typical day in the life of a Software Engineering Manager might include:
- Acting as a technical expert in the code and systems while simultaneously managing a team of software engineers and issues that arise day to day
- Being the subject matter expert for business objective implementation in code
- Lead the software engineering team through multiple projects and objectives with complex dependencies to deliver projects on time
- Collaborate with Technical Product Managers and Product Managers to define product and feature requirements and estimate required development time
- Create KPIs for your team to measure their impact and contributions
- Working with Product Design on wireframing and mockups for UI/UX to ensure designs are creating the best user experience
- Partnering with leadership to influence and drive org design, contribution and prioritization
Qualifications
The right candidate probably has a Computer Science degree in addition to solid project management skills. You have solid instincts for usability and creating beautiful functional web applications. You are probably a techie at heart that gravitates towards constant forward movement on projects. More specifics include:
- 5+ years of software engineering work experience, including hands-on technical management building holistic web based software solution, API design, and interactions between servers and clients
- 5+ years experience coding in one of the following languages: C++, Java, Python, JavaScript/Node.js, and/or PHP
- Proficiency with at least one of the following and creating highly maintainable code: React.js, AngularJS, and Node.js
- Solid understanding of relational and nosql databases and experience with Postgres or MySQL
- Experience with the HTTP protocol and developing and using RESTful APIs.
- Experience writing code that interacts asynchronously with detailed APIs on complex logic flows.
- Very comfortable using Git in a team environment (i.e. pull-requests, branch management, rebasing).
- Experience with release management and deployments using CI/CD such as Gitlab
- Experience working in an environment leveraging remote communication collaboration tools like Slack, Zoom etc.
- Familiarity with microservices running on a cloud infrastructure such as AWS
- Demonstrated experience recruiting and managing technical teams, including performance management
- Outstanding organizational skills with a passion for documenting code and processes alike
- Proficient in interpreting business and technical requirements and making decisions in context of overall business objectives
- Highly motivated with an eagerness to learn new technologies, be part of a collaborative team, and maintain a transformational and creative mindset.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate both technical and non-technical issues and resolve problems at all levels of the organization both internally and externally.
- Ability to balance short term with long term strategies and resource allocation.
- Ability to build strong and trusted relationships at all levels of organization.
Preferred Experience
- Experience with the the Salesforce API
- Experience with the ServiceNow API
- Experience with the Stripe API and auto payment processing
- Experience as a software engineer in the Telecom industry
Base Pay Range: $108,500 - $155,000, commensurate with experience.
