For the past couple of years, Storefront Engineering has been going through a major technology transition, empowering teams to build services and interfaces that can be updated and deployed independently. We are on the journey to build the tools and services to deliver value to our customers more quickly, all in an environment where engineering teams have the autonomy to make the right decision for themselves and their product.

The Storefront Backend Platforms team is a primary contributor to that technology transition, through building foundational patterns and systems for both infrastructure and application architecture. This role will focus on building the best team and delivering results in the area of Core Framework and Service Framework. The team delivers the application platform capabilities, tools, and architecture support necessary for Storefront teams to build exceptional eCommerce services and systems. What You’ll Do:

  • Oversee a sprint team of 5-8 software engineers
  • Build a capable team with strong leadership through effective headcount planning, hiring, on-boarding, retention, and continuous improvement
  • Be responsible for owning features developed by your team in each phase of a project – design, implementation, code review, QA and deployment to production
  • Partner closely with product owners and stakeholders to build and maintain a robust project roadmap
  • Break down complex initiatives into concrete iterative pieces
  • Seek out, define, and evolve best practices within teams’ area of focus as well as initiatives that raise the standards across the organization
  • Flex your strength and knowledge on Java, DevOps, and microservice development.
  • Ensure services are built to industry best practices, including observability, architectural patterns, and inter-team dependency mechanisms (like SLOs)
  • Work within an Agile culture to foster continuous improvement at the team and departmental level
  • Proven success in mentoring junior engineers to improve standards and reduce defects in dynamic environments

We Are a Match Because You Have:

  • 7+ years of experience in engineering, with a preference for candidates with a mix of start-up and large-company experience 
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent of education and experience
  • Mastery leading or managing a team of software engineers and delivery of business impacting applications
  • Prior hands-on experience designing, building, and maintaining services and systems that support the delivery of end user experiences, functionality and data.
  • Understanding of software architecture to help empower software developers to build new features with reliability and scalability in mind
  • Experience in cross-functional consensus building and influencing without authority
  • Mastery in designing systems at scale
  • Proficient in effective troubleshooting and issue resolution techniques
  • Expertise with a modern programming language (such as Python, Java, JavaScript, C#, Scala, GO, or others)
