Come join Grab's FIRST-AID TechOps Development Team - we are on an exciting mission to empower all Grabbers to be the best version of themselves by growing a culture of continuous learning and feedback. We are looking for a Software Engineer Manager to take part of the FIRST-AID TechOps Development Team. You will be responsible for building, growing and leading a team of engineers focused on delivering high quality deliverables, spanning across multiple key internal services powering Grab’s internal operational processes. These services are key for Grab’s operational success.

As a Software Engineering Manager with our Techops Development team, you'll be in the vanguard of innovation, ensuring our internal systems stay on the cutting edge. You'll cover the entire development lifecycle, from design to deployment, with a focus on high-quality code and performance.
The Day-to-Day Activities
- Lead and coach a team of engineers across different tech stacks. This role requires a hands-on approach where you will still contribute to the codebase with your team.
- Partner with cross functional leaders across product, design, analytics to build the product roadmap, set customer focussed metrics and robust experiment designs
- Lead the quarterly planning and build a smooth execution plan with the team for securing the delivery of product and engineering roadmap
- Drive company-wide engineering initiatives by collaborating effectively with senior leaders across the company by communicating your ideas effectively and driving alignment with key stakeholders to create successful outcomes.
- Set the engineering strategy and engineering key result targets for the team, consistently raise the bar across testability, availability, security and code quality for your systems and modules
- Implement best practices, ensuring high-quality code and adhering to design, performance, security, and accessibility standards.
- Attract and retain senior engineering talent, actively mentor and develop engineering talent in the team and across Grab
- Keep your team staffing aligned with business needs and quickly pivot to changing needs
Qualifications
The Must-Haves
- 5+ years of engineering experience on web and backend technologies
- Significant experience as a successful software engineer manager or tech lead
- Demonstrated experience in attracting and retaining key talent. Experience in mentoring engineers is critical for this role
- Possess excellent communication skills and can communicate complex technical topics to technical and non-technical audiences effectively
- A cultural role model with a strong sense of humility and empathy, ready to roll up one’s sleeves to help the team achieve engineering excellence.
The Nice-To-Haves
- Hand-on experience in frontend frameworks such as ReactJS (preferred), Micro Frontends, and Webpack.
- Solid software engineering and coding skills. Experience in at least one backend language like Go, Scala, Java, C++, or others is required. You can be a good coder in any language but must be willing to work on Golang.
- Hands-on experience working with AWS infrastructure (Nice to have)
- Experience with relational databases (e.g., MySQL) and NoSQL databases (e.g., DynamoDB)
- Strong knowledge of software development best practices, including version control (Git), unit testing, and continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines
- Excellent problem-solving, and analytical skills.
