Position Overview

In this role, you will provide hands-on software engineering and system architecture leadership for Finance Technology Delivery teams. The Software Engineering Manager will be responsible for helping us build and grow a highly talented team that is focused on using technology, Cloud engineering, Data Engineering & Science, embedded insights, and product design principles to innovate and deliver modern solutions aligned to strategic initiatives. In this role you will collaborate with technology leadership and partners to define and execute on a shared vision. You authentically engage with your team and matrix partners to ensure ongoing alignment and delivery success. You are dedicated to technical excellence for yourself, your team, and the software you deliver. The ideal candidate should have experience in building and leading high performing teams and experience in software engineering, preferably in health care or a related industry.

Responsibilities

 Provides leadership, vision, and architectural/design direction for the team. 

  • Responsible for software product engineering deliverables and activities including solution architecture reviews/recommendations, design, development, testing, and automation
  • Track and monitor the progress of milestones and team velocity, recommend adjustments as necessary 
  • Leverage technical expertise and Cloud based experience to ensure we are building scalable products that are highly performant and secure
  • Work with the engineers to create, maintain, and enhance pipelines for Continuous Integration (CI) and Continuous Deployment (CD) of infrastructure and application code.
  • Work with the engineers to utilize data science and advanced analytics to create actionable insights and recommendations for business leaders to advance Cigna’s strategic objectives.
  • Apply best practice software engineering principles towards the development of applications, to production Alize Machine Learning models.
  • Focus on automation and exploring opportunities to leverage and benefit from Gen AI
  • Foster an engineering mindset culture that is focused on increasing business value velocity, building products of high quality that can scale, and user experiences that support end to end workflows that are rich with insights and simple to use
  • Leads the team in troubleshooting and problem resolution.
  • Stay current on technology in order to capitalize on new capabilities that can advance business
  • Work with US Engineering Team leads on a regular basis.
  • Takes accountability for the technology assets owned by the team.

Qualifications

Required Skills:

  • Experience in Hadoop, Spark / PySpark - 4yrs+
  • Experience with VBA/Tableau/R/Python - 2yrs+
  • Experience in Devops, Open-Source tools/technologies such as Airflow, Jenkins, Git, GitHub actions, Terraform, Ansible, Prometheus, Grafana, Python etc. and related tools & processes - 4yrs+
  • Experience in web development frameworks, JAVA, Angular  - 4yrs +
  • Experience with SQL, queries, complex Troubleshooting
  • Experience with Cloud Tech - Any (AWS preferred)
  • Background in application development, including mobile technologies, web services, and back-end application infrastructure
  • Familiarity with agile methodology including SCRUM team leadership. 
  • Guiding mentoring & upscaling teams
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact with all levels of the organization.
  • Strong influencing/negotiation skills.
  • Strong interpersonal/relationship management skills.
  • Strong time and project management skills.

Required Experience & Education: 

  • 13+ years total IT experience in software engineering of which 5+ years of proven experience leading/managing technical teams with a passion for the developing the talent within the team.
  • Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Artificial Intelligence, or a related field.
  • Cloud certifications such as AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Google Cloud Professional Cloud Architect are preferred. Strong knowledge of cloud computing concepts
  • Proven track record of delivering software engineering initiatives, Data Product initiatives, and cross IT/business initiatives
  • Demonstrated success with delivering products using modern software techniques
  • Applied expertise in software engineering methodologies including automation and CI/CDExposure to AWS 
  • Coaching of team members
