We are currently seeking a full-time Software Engineering Manager to join our IT team in Sterling, VA.
The Software Engineering Manager will lead a team of software engineers responsible for designing, building, modernizing, and supporting ANI Health’s software applications and technology platform. This role is both a technical leadership and people leadership position, requiring someone who can guide engineering execution, mentor developers, enforce strong software development practices, and partner closely with product, operations, implementation, and platform engineering teams.
This individual will play a key role in transforming acquired intellectual property into a modern SaaS-based healthcare platform. The ideal candidate is a hands-on engineering leader who understands enterprise software delivery, healthcare workflows, application architecture, security, scalability, and the importance of building reliable systems for mission-critical environments.
- Lead, coach, and manage a team of software engineers, creating a culture of accountability, quality, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Oversee the design, development, testing, deployment, and support of ANI Health’s software platform and related applications.
- Partner with Product Management to translate business, clinical, and operational requirements into clear technical plans and deliverable software solutions.
- Work closely with the VP of Platform Engineering to align software development efforts with the overall technical architecture, cloud strategy, security posture, and long-term product roadmap.
- Drive engineering best practices, including code reviews, documentation, automated testing, CI/CD, secure development, performance optimization, and maintainable architecture.
- Help modernize legacy application components into scalable, cloud-ready, SaaS-oriented solutions.
- Ensure software solutions are built with reliability, usability, security, interoperability, and compliance in mind.
- Support healthcare-specific needs, including clinical workflows, reporting, integrations, data exchange, auditability, and operational continuity.
- Collaborate with implementation, customer success, and support teams to troubleshoot issues, improve product stability, and incorporate customer feedback into future development.
- Assist in sprint planning, backlog refinement, technical prioritization, release planning, and resource allocation.
- Identify technical debt, scalability risks, and process gaps, then develop practical plans to address them.
- Mentor engineers in both technical growth and professional development.
- Participate in hiring, onboarding, performance management, and team development as the engineering organization grows.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or equivalent professional experience.
- 10+ years of software engineering experience, with at least 3+ years in a technical leadership, team lead, or engineering management role.
- Experience building and supporting enterprise software applications, preferably in SaaS, healthcare technology, EHR, or other regulated environments.
- Strong understanding of software development lifecycle practices, agile delivery, release management, source control, testing, and production support.
- Experience leading engineering teams through modernization, refactoring, platform migration, or product transformation efforts.
- Ability to work closely with product, business, clinical, and technical stakeholders.
- Strong understanding of application architecture, APIs, integrations, databases, cloud platforms, and secure software development principles.
- Demonstrated ability to balance hands-on technical contribution with team leadership and delivery accountability.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
Preferred:
- Experience with healthcare software, EHR platforms, clinical workflows, correctional healthcare, or government healthcare environments.
- Experience with Microsoft Azure, cloud-native application development, DevOps practices, and modern application frameworks.
- Familiarity with healthcare interoperability standards such as HL7, FHIR, APIs, and data exchange patterns.
