About the Position

The Salesforce Safe Deployments team is looking for engineers to work on the core software deployment service for Salesforce. Challenges include figuring out the next generation of deployment and lifecycle management capabilities for services on Kubernetes, simplifying deployments for services leveraging a modern service mesh (Istio), enabling automated zero downtime deployment of Kubernetes applications at Salesforce, ensuring these deployments work at scale, providing sophisticated and automated error analysis for service health, providing various configurable capabilities to support safe deployments across substrates, building custom Kubernetes operators to provide new capabilities for management of K8s apps and more.

We’re looking for someone who has

  • A demonstrated history of executing successfully on multiple cross-functional infrastructure features and services.

  • Familiarity and experience with Argo Rollouts

  • Experience working on and partnering with infrastructure customer facing teams, with the ability to understand customer needs and drive consensus.

  • A demonstrated history of mentoring and coaching senior engineers in the team, being able to lead design and coding work, and act as the tech lead on the team.

  • Experience/interest in contributing to one or more reputed, high quality open source products. This position will entail designing, developing, testing and delivering new contributions and enhancements to the Argo Rollouts product we use. As a part of this effort, you will be working closely with the Argo Rollouts community community to contribute your changes back.

  • In depth knowledge and experience working with Kubernetes(preferably in a public cloud environment). Ideally you have significant experience developing Kubernetes operators.

Your responsibilities include

  • Design and implement major features and enhancements to the Salesforce Kubernetes platform experience.

  • Contribute changes to Argo and other open source projects in collaboration with the community.

  • Mentor engineers to make sound technical decisions and help build effective engineering practices. 

  • Build POCs and pilots where appropriate and turn them into high quality production ready code, delivering value with speed and in increments.

  • Write high quality, maintainable code.

  • Participate and contribute to architecture, code, security and operational reviews.

  • Efficiently troubleshoot production and/ or customer issues.

  • Service ownership and customer support.

You should have the following qualifications

  • Significant expertise in Golang, with working knowledge of Java and/or Python.

  • Expertise, or at least familiarity with Argo Rollouts

  • Familiarity with cloud deployment technologies like Spinnaker, Terraform and Kubernetes.

  • Familiarity with building secure, highly available services in the public cloud.

  • Deep working knowledge of Kubernetes internals.

  • 10+ years of relevant experience.

Preferably, you also have the following qualifications

  • Significant experience and expertise in Kubernetes.

  • Experience with public cloud (AWS, Azure, GCP)

  • Deep understanding and demonstrated experience with Kubernetes operator development.

  • 15+ years of relevant experience.

  • A track record of open source contributions.

  • Proven ability in deciding solution architectures, identifying potential risks, taking proactive measures to ensure code quality and ability to lead and present design/architecture reviews.
