Program Overview:
The Sallie Mae Internship program seeks to attract and develop exceptional early talent while adding value to our organization. Our goal is to tie academic learning into a practical business setting while fostering professional and personal growth within a student’s area of focus.
Over the course of the summer, interns will gain exposure to senior leaders, attend meetings, work alongside mentors, and receive valuable performance feedback.
What You'll Contribute:
The intern will be responsible for contributing to the development and implementation of engineering projects for the CIM (Customer Information Management) team. The CIM team governs solutions pertaining to the storage, organization, retention, and modification of customer data for Sallie Mae.
Regular communication and feedback through team mentorship will be expected and will aid in growth and success. Opportunities will be afforded to develop technical skills in programming languages, frameworks, and tools such as Python, C#, Java, Node.js, Git, Azure DevOps, AI (Copilot), and Amazon Web Services (AWS).
What You'll Do:
Contribute to the execution of engineering projects, ensuring their successful completion within defined timelines and quality standards.
Develop and implement engineering solutions, adhering to best practices, and leveraging appropriate tools and technologies.
Conduct thorough testing and quality assurance to ensure the reliability and performance of deliverables.
Provide technical support and troubleshooting expertise to address issues and challenges encountered during project execution.
Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including product management, design, and operations, to ensure project alignment and successful outcomes.
Communicate project progress, risks, and challenges to stakeholders in a clear and timely manner.
Support team initiatives to drive positive organizational change in technologies, solutions, and/or processes.

What You Have:
Minimum education, skills and experience required.
Currently enrolled in an accredited university pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or related technical field
Open to undergraduate and graduate level students with expected graduation dates of Dec 2026 - May 2027
Availability:
This is a 10 week internship and expectations for a 40 hour work week for the following dates 5/26/26-7/31/2026.
We follow a 3 day flexible in office policy in Indianapolis office; designated housing is included in offer package for the internship dates outlined above.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Previous internship experience in technology preferred.
Strong understanding of programming fundamentals with experience in one or more languages (Python, C#, JavaScript, Java, or similar)
Basic understanding of HTML/CSS and web development principles
Self-motivated with strong initiative and curiosity about technology
Adaptability and openness to learning
Interest in enterprise-scale technology challenges and solutions
Professional demeanor suitable for interaction with IT leadership and business stakeholders
