Position Summary

State Street is seeking a highly motivated Assistant Vice President (AVP) to lead application development initiatives within the IMSWest Remediation Program. This role will be responsible for driving the design, development, and delivery of strategic remediation solutions that improve platform stability, controls effectiveness, operational resilience, and engineering quality.

The successful candidate will lead a team of software engineers and work closely with global architects, business analysts, production support teams, and remediation stakeholders to deliver high-impact solutions across mission-critical investment management platforms.

Key Responsibilities

Engineering Delivery

  • Lead one or more development teams responsible for IMSWest remediation initiatives.
  • Deliver high-quality software solutions aligned with remediation priorities, risk reduction objectives, and business commitments.
  • Validate technical designs, implementation approaches, and architecture decisions.
  • Ensure projects are delivered on schedule with strong engineering discipline and predictable execution.

Software Development Leadership

  • Provide technical leadership across application development, integration, automation, and modernization activities.
  • Drive development best practices including secure coding, code reviews, automated testing, and CI/CD adoption.
  • Collaborate with architects to define scalable and maintainable solutions.
  • Contribute to hands-on development of critical components when required.

Platform Modernization

  • Support technical debt reduction and application modernization initiatives.
  • Improve system reliability, scalability, and operational supportability.
  • Implement automation solutions to reduce manual operational activities.
  • Partner with observability and SRE teams to improve monitoring and incident management capabilities.

Quality & Risk Management

  • Ensure development activities comply with technology governance and control requirements.
  • Drive root-cause analysis and permanent fixes for recurring production issues.
  • Improve application stability through preventive engineering practices.
  • Support remediation efforts arising from audits, risk reviews, and control assessments.

Stakeholder Collaboration

  • Work closely with global technology teams, business stakeholders, and production support organizations.
  • Participate in remediation governance forums and project reviews.
  • Communicate project status, technical risks, dependencies, and mitigation plans.
  • Partner with offshore and onshore teams to ensure seamless delivery.

Talent Development

  • Mentor and develop software engineers and technical leads.
  • Support recruitment, onboarding, and capability development initiatives.
  • Foster a culture of ownership, accountability, continuous learning, and engineering excellence.
  • Promote knowledge sharing and technical collaboration across teams.

Required Qualifications

  • 8+ years of software engineering experience with at least 2 years leading development teams.
  • Strong experience with Java and enterprise application development.
  • Experience designing and developing distributed systems and API-based architectures.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, GitHub, Jenkins, SonarQube, and modern software delivery practices.
  • Experience working within Agile/Scrum development environments.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Financial Services, Asset Management, Custody, or Capital Markets experience.
  • Experience with cloud technologies (AWS and/or Azure).
  • Knowledge of event-driven architectures and data integration platforms.
  • Familiarity with observability platforms such as Dynatrace, Splunk, Grafana, or OpenTelemetry.
  • Experience supporting critical production applications in a regulated environment.
  • Exposure to DevOps, SRE, and platform engineering practices.
