Join our global team for a career filled with opportunities to solve challenges both small and large, local and global, simple and complex.
Join Wilhelmsen Ships Service (WSS) as Software Engineer
Location: Norway (Lysaker) | Type: Full-time
At Wilhelmsen you will work in autonomous product teams who own what they build💡
In this role, you will be given ownership of new or existing products, with significant influence over direction, architecture, and goals. You will not only be responsible for implementing features, but also serve as one of the central decision makers in the team, helping to shape the path you believe will best realize our vision.
Wilhelmsen Ship Service is a company fully owned by the Wilhelmsen group. We produce and deliver products essential for vessel operation, from chemicals, mooring ropes to safety equipment. Through our logistics network, we deliver these products to vessels in more than 2000 ports across the globe. Our digital team is building and maintaining customer facing solutions to support our physical products, like Line Management Plan (LMP) supporting mooring operations, and Waterproof supporting technical water treatment onboard vessels. Our products and services are built using a variety of technologies and services. C#, Blazor, Python, React, Go, Avalonia, Azure, GitHub to mention a few.
The shipping industry is rapidly modernizing, and we’re tackling the opportunity to build smart, automated solutions head‑on. You’ll take ownership of the products that excite you most, and together with a capable team, solid tooling, and plenty of room for creative side‑projects, you’ll have the mandate and support to push your skills and our products forward.
"There are very few pure IT-problems here and I absolutely love broadening my horizon by learning about anything from engines and water chemistry to creating software together with domain experts. This means that I am not only the guy who writes the code, I’m a part of the team that builds the solution to a complex problem, improving not only my skills as a developer but also growing as a professional in general." - Kristoffer Møgster Berge, Head of Engineering and Technology in Wilhelmsen.

What we are looking for
“License to Fail”: We prioritize learning over raw efficiency. We want you to test new stacks, break things, and find better ways to solve old problems.
Whether you’re a pro in Typescript/React, Python or .NET, we care more about your problem-solving skills than your specific syntax. If a new language is the right tool for the job, we’ll back you in using it.
Someone willing to take responsibility, challenge current processes, and find solutions to problems, not just picking up work items in Jira.
Taking full-stack ownership: a person who wants to contribute backend and frontend
How we work
We believe in autonomous teams with strong individuals owning and managing products, not projects, and you’ll be at the core of one or more of our products’ futures. Each team is highly independent, aiming for the applications and services to be highly decoupled, with people as the most valuable part of the equation.
