Software Engineers at Opto Investments are tasked with turning complex business and financial workflows into elegant, pragmatic engineering solutions. As part of the Product Engineering team, you will work across the stack — from designing robust domain models and REST APIs to building intuitive user interfaces that power core client experiences.
We are context-driven, customer- and stakeholder-empathetic builders of tools and systems. We are end-to-end owners of engineering problems who constantly challenge one another to evolve as builders and collaborators. Oh, and we have fun along the way, because otherwise, what's the point?

Our tech stack consists of React-based Next.js Typescript applications, Aurora-backed Python and Java REST API services hosted as containerized applications in AWS, AWS Lambda for asynchronous tasks, and Snowflake for data ingestion and warehousing. Our service deployments are completely automated and execute multiple times daily. Our platform continues to evolve based on our principles of modularity, scalability, reliability, and team-level service ownership.
Expectations- Be accountable for the delivery of high quality software projects in coordination with teammates and stakeholders on mutually agreed upon timelines
- Seek context and rapidly iterate on solutions to eliminate ambiguity and drive projects forward
- Participate actively in all phases of product development across specification, implementation, QA testing, deployment, and operations
- Foster a culture of collaboration by actively engaging in discussions, documentation, and code review
- Participate actively in engineering recruiting (interviewing, problem specification, role ownership, etc)
- Raise your hand when you need help - don’t hesitate to reach out to stakeholders (product, teammates, managers, etc) to unblock your progress
- 4-year technical degree (or equivalent work experience)
- 2+ years software development experience
- Experience using React to build feature-rich user interfaces
- Experience with automated frontend testing patterns such as Cypress
- Experience designing and building REST APIs
- Experience with domain and data modeling
- Experience with the software development lifecycle (CI/CD, Git, etc.)
- Experience with cloud computing architectures and tooling — particularly AWS
- Demonstrated background or interest in investment management
- Comfort with ambiguity and the ability to execute in a fast-paced startup environment
- Excellent communication skills and grace under pressure

Compensation and Benefits
Opto has a high bar for talent, and we are committed to building the best teams possible. The successful candidate for this role can expect a generous compensation and benefits package. The cash salary range for this role is $160,000-$240,000 dependent on skills, experience and expected contribution.

This position is based primarily onsite in our New York City office.
At this time, Opto can only hire candidates who reside in the following states:
California, Colorado, Florida, Idaho, Illinois, Maine, Maryland, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and Washington.
