Job Description

As a Software Developer, you will contribute to the development and maintenance of the software that powers our flagship optical sorting application, which sorts tens of thousands of fruit per minute in a real-time industrial setting using computer vision and AI. In this role, reporting to the Software & AI Lead, you will collaborate with senior developers and application engineers to ensure our solutions meet real-world requirements and deliver exceptional value. You will also be part of a global R&D team and play a key role in supporting our regional service teams, providing them with the tools and knowledge needed to maintain and optimize our systems in the field.

About the role: 

Development

  • Write clean, efficient, and maintainable code.
  • Assist in producing detailed designs that meet requirements.
  • Create tools to instrument and monitor systems as needed.
  • Contribute to technical decisions and requirements.
  • Make accurate time estimates and deliver on those estimates.
  • Develop an understanding of customer needs and industry trends.
  • Support cross-functional engineering projects.
  • Ensure compliance with cybersecurity standards and best practices.
  • Implement comprehensive testing plans to assess and improve product developments.
  • Follow our software development processes.
  • Continuously improve existing products and find ways to enhance work and cost efficiency.
  • Provide technical support for customers and TOMRA employees, working constructively with customers directly, as well as service departments and other design teams.
  • Participate in occasional site visits domestically and internationally to support and test new and existing products or designs.

Software Technical

  • Assist in designing and developing software for our high-performance fruit grading products, primarily using C++ and C#.
  • Help create and enhance software applications for our high-performance machines, including dashboards, reports, and other customer-centric tools.
  • Maintain and optimize tooling such as CI/CD infrastructure and code repositories to ensure efficient development workflows.

 

Qualifications

About you:

We're looking for someone who enjoys solving difficult problems and has the ability to learn and adapt to the different technologies we use as needed. The below list provides a flavour of some current technologies we use. 

  • 0-2+ years, preferably in the industry automation, machinery, or engineering sectors.
  • Fluent in spoken and written English; proficiency in other languages is a plus.
  • Programming Languages: C++, C#, C, Python, Javascript.
  • Frameworks and Libraries: .NET, MFC, WPF, Blazor, Qt, PyTorch, React, OpenCV.
  • Operating Systems: Windows, Linux
  • Cloud Services: Microsoft Azure (Azure DevOps, Azure Machine Learning, ACA, etc)
  • Development Tools: Visual Studio, Git, Docker
  • CI/CD: Gitlab, Teamcity, GitHub, Azure DevOps Pipelines.
  • Database Technologies: SQL Server, Postgresql
  • Version Control: Git, Gitlab, Github, Azure Repos.
  • Project Management: Targetprocess, Azure Devops, Agile, NPD and Stage gate.
  • Testing Tools: gtest, NUnit.
  • Minimum of a Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Computer Science or a related field.

Travel:

  • Ability to work in an open office environment as well as industrial customer worksites.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally, 1 – 4 weeks a year.
