We are looking for a Software Engineer to design, develop, and maintain applications for planning experiments and managing data generated in our lab. Using the NYSCF Global Stem Cell Array®, one of the world’s largest automated cell culture platforms, scientists can study diseases, including Parkinson’s and diabetes, at an unprecedented scale.

What you will do:

  • Use C#, VB.NET and WinForms, together with SQL and Entity Framework.
  • Update, maintain, and improve the existing code and work with the team to plan the next iteration of our software.
  • Implement robust testing frameworks for unit, integration, and system tests.
  • Lead projects to maintain and expand the functionality of desktop-based applications that are part of the NYSCF Laboratory Information System (LIMS) ecosystem.

Who you are:

  • Strong background in C# (4+ years) and experience using relational databases, stored procedures, and Entity Framework.
  • Experience handling legacy code and enjoy the challenges and opportunities this brings in modernizing and improving tech stacks.
  • Coding daily in your current role and stay up to date on industry best practices.
  • Enjoy collaborating with team members, including those from non-engineering backgrounds.
  • Willing to learn and enjoy sharing knowledge.

Nice-to-have skills:

  • Experience with WinForms and VB.Net.
  • DevOps experience, preferably AWS.
  • An interest in Biology, Science, and/or Disease Research.

At NYSCF, we believe diversity in all forms makes us a better team, and we celebrate it. Yet studies have shown that women, people of color, and other minoritized individuals in STEM may be less likely to apply to jobs where they do not meet all of the criteria. Therefore, if you are excited about this role but your past experience does not align perfectly with every qualification in the job description, we encourage you to apply anyway. You may be just the right candidate for this or other roles.

We offer all full-time employees a comprehensive benefits package that goes into effect on the first of the month following your start date. It includes a choice of medical, dental, and vision insurance, 403b retirement plan with 2% employer match (immediate vesting schedule which starts after your first 90 days), short and long term insurance, life insurance, inclusive paid parental leave program, pretax transit and parking, legal aid benefits and wellness benefits. Our paid time off includes vacation, sick, personal days, flexible holidays, summer flex program, and all company holidays. If a visa is required, NYSCF will cover all of those costs. Relocation will sometimes be necessary; therefore, we will provide you with an allowance.

In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and complete the required employment eligibility verification upon hire.

NYSCF is an equal opportunity employer, and we value diversity in our organization. We provide equal opportunities to all applicants for employment without discrimination or harassment based on race, color, religion, sex (including pregnancy, childbirth, or related medical conditions), sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, age, disability, national origin, marital or domestic/civil partnership status, genetic information, citizenship status, veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law.

The position is based at our location in Manhattan.

What We Do

The mission of The New York Stem Cell Foundation is to cure the major diseases of our time through stem cell research.

In addition to conducting innovative stem cell research in our own safe haven laboratories, NYSCF also supports and convenes global stem cell thought leaders and the broader stem cell community – all with the focus on getting to patients. Since our founding in 2005, NYSCF has been able to achieve outsized results in a relatively short period of time thanks to private philanthropy.

The NYSCF Research Institute, an independent laboratory, is a non-profit accelerator that serves to bridge the ongoing gap between research institutions and pharmaceutical and biotech companies by reducing the cost, time, and risk that historically inhibit the development of new treatments and cures. In just over one decade, NYSCF has created not only foundational tools for using stem cells in basic research, but also pioneering technologies that will allow stem cells to be used therapeutically.

By pursuing and supporting only the most promising stem cell research and technologies, in our own laboratories and in partnership with leading institutions around the world, NYSCF serves as a catalyst in this transformational field, advancing our mission to accelerate cures for the major diseases of our time
