We believe quantum computing will change everything. It will have the power to transform the foundations of giant industries that rely on intensive computation. PsiQuantum is on a mission to build the world’s first useful quantum computer, capable of delivering these transformative results. We know that means it will need 1 million qubits, error correction, a scalable architecture and a data center footprint.
By harnessing the laws of quantum physics, quantum computers can provide exponential performance increases over today’s most powerful supercomputers, offering the potential for extraordinary advances across a broad range of industries including climate, energy, healthcare, pharmaceuticals, finance, agriculture, transportation, materials design, and many more.
PsiQuantum is uniquely positioned to deliver on the promise of quantum computing years earlier than our competitors. Our architecture is based on photonics which gives us the ability to produce our components using existing high-volume semiconductor manufacturing processes, the same processes that are today producing billions of chips for telecom and consumer electronics applications. Since photons don’t feel heat, we can take advantage of existing cryogenic cooling systems, the kind that have been operating at facilities like the Stanford Linear Accelerator (SLAC). And because photons are in fact light, they can move between subsystems at tremendous speed using standard fiber connectivity.
Our team is building a utility scale quantum computer and the software tools needed to build fault tolerant quantum applications. We’re a highly motivated and collaborative group focused on a singular goal - building the world’s first useful quantum computer on the fastest path possible.
There’s much more work to be done and we are looking for exceptional talent to join us on this extraordinary journey!
Job Summary:
PsiQuantum is singularly focused on the delivery of a useful utility-scale fault tolerant quantum computer. In addition to deploying a world-class quantum computer, we aim to deliver a world-class quantum user experience to both our external customers and internal developers. This will require the development of a novel, production-grade software system which will enable the delivery of both external enterprise products and internal quantum toolchains to interact with multiple generations of our system.
We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Software Engineer with a focus on Operations to join our team. This role requires a professional with a deep understanding of Python, AWS, GitLab, and CI/CD pipeline configurations, along with a systems-thinking approach to development and operations. The successful candidate will be responsible for streamlining and optimizing our software delivery processes, ensuring reliable, scalable, and efficient infrastructure.
As a Software Engineer with an operations focus, you will play a pivotal role in designing and managing automated pipelines, ensuring smooth integrations, and working cross-functionally to drive operational excellence across the product lifecycle. You will also lead efforts to enhance our CI/CD practices, optimize infrastructure performance, and ensure secure, resilient deployments that meet our customer satisfaction and productivity KPIs.
If you’re passionate about delivering operational excellence and are ready to work in a dynamic environment where your contributions directly impact the product lifecycle, we would love to hear from you!
Responsibilities
- Design, configure, and optimize CI/CD pipelines to automate the software delivery process.
- Collaborate with development teams to ensure that infrastructure, automation, and monitoring are aligned with development and operational goals.
- Write robust, modular, and maintainable Python code to manage operational tasks and integrations.
- Oversee GitLab environments, including version control, automated builds, and deployment processes.
- Leverage AWS services to build, maintain, and optimize scalable cloud-based infrastructures.
- Implement monitoring and logging tools to ensure system reliability and preemptively identify issues.
- Foster collaboration between developers, testers, and IT operations to improve software delivery speed and quality.
- Implement security best practices in all stages of the development lifecycle, from design to deployment, including ensuring proper authentication and authorization controls.
- Drive continuous improvement by analyzing performance metrics, identifying bottlenecks, and making data-driven recommendations to optimize operational workflows.
- Provide mentorship and support to junior team members, ensuring alignment with best practices and industry standards.
Experience/Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in software engineering, with a strong focus on operations and DevOps practices.
- Expertise in Python programming for building automation tools and scripts.
- Solid hands-on experience with AWS (Amazon Web Services), including deploying and managing infrastructure.
- Proficiency with GitLab for managing version control, CI/CD configurations, and pipelines.
- Strong understanding of Git for managing and tracking code changes across teams and environments.
- Experience in setting up and managing CI/CD pipelines, including testing, release, and deployment automation.
- Solid knowledge of containerization and orchestration technologies, such as Docker and Kubernetes, is a plus.
- Knowledge of monitoring tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, or CloudWatch for system health tracking and performance management.
- Experience with automated testing frameworks and implementing security measures in CI/CD workflows.
- Familiarity with systems thinking and experience in optimizing software architectures for performance and reliability.
- Experience with infrastructure as code (IaC) tools such as Terraform or AWS CloudFormation is highly desirable.
- Proven ability to work in a fast-paced environment, ensuring that solutions are delivered on time and within budget.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to work across cross-functional teams and manage multiple stakeholders.

What We Do
Quantum computing will be a world-changing technology with the potential to unlock powerful advances in medicine, energy, finance and beyond. At PsiQuantum, we’re focused on building the world’s first useful quantum computer.
A useful quantum computer requires at least 1,000,000 qubits and error correction. We believe photonics is the only path to building a useful quantum computer.
Our team at PsiQuantum is a mix of quantum physicists, semiconductor, systems, and software engineers, system architects and more. Error correction is at the centre of everything we do; and we focus on solving real-world problems.
If you’re interested in joining our team, we are always open to hearing from exceptional people interested in working on one of the defining technologies of our lifetime.
